Lets make some spelling errors

How do spelling errors effect SEO? I know it can work towards you (if people make a common spelling error, it's easier to get your site listed on top for that misspelled word, rather than the actual correct keyword). The con would be that it makes your site look unprofessional (of course if it's MFA, then that doesn't matter;) )

    Your thoughts on this?

I've actually been ranked on top for a certain misspelled word and got a lot of traffic for it, it was easily mispelled and most people though that the misspelled word was actually the correct word. if you know what i mean :p

That's what I thought because it's easier to get to the top with those words! But I guess it depends on your site? Because it also lowers professionalism (google corrects you if you misspell a word!)

Just checked my Google account: It delivers both my ranking of correct and incorrect queries: like "restaurant softwaer" (9th) and "restaurant software" (27th) So its basically 3:1 :))

It is unprofessional, I was just curious about if others use such strategy ;)

I'm sure this is okay for MFA sites? But for business sites (such as portfolios) it is highly unprofessional

It used to work. Yes easy traffic for site and alot of people started using same misspelled words.

Now yahoo and sometimes google correct misspelled search terms so some misspelled keywords are useless and some search engines are now saying they penalize sites for it.

You can use misspelled words on the alt tags not on the content it might look unprofessional.

I would say that some time misspelled words are good to get conversion.
