I've had some good press in this forum lately so I suppose the least I can do is give away a few tips. Our little site now has a revolving Google Alerts Newsdesk. We have been running it for about 2 months now and my search rate has gone up by 500 new visitors per month of these around 50% have gone from 'basic enquiry' through to requiring paperwork, so I'm hiring staff. Even if only 10% of those enquiries go to New Business we are talking about £2.5 million in new loans per month, so by the years end we should easily attain £100million in new business.(We have a hardcore client base who constantly use us) I do not advertise. Website owners tend to think more about how their sites look to them rather than how they look to a potential client, that is a huge mistake, if your site is not user friendly then spending thousands on promotion will result in hits and not sales. Most Site owners start out with PPC or Adwords and ignore optimisation (we use an 'S'!) that too is a big mistake. It is my experience that it is your page titles that generate SERPs - How many of you have reviewed your competitors sites only to find them crammed with spammed keywords and you think, why do I bother? The odds are that they show up high in the rankings not for how they are tag optimised but for search terms that the spiders see and recognise as 'relevant'. Our 'revolving newsdesk' creates constant updating of our site 24 hours per day 365 days a year. If you search on Yahoo -CTAB Mortgage Desk - you will find that it even lists that feature. That search term is now on page one of every major SE on the planet. It is called branding. It is linked to my forum post sig, which also gets a massive BL list. All of this takes time and a huge amount of patience. I've been running a pretty big thread over at WPW asking if Google is forcing us to advertise, the thread is well worth a read http://www.webproworld.com/viewtopic.php?t=53651 - I hope you will find that topic of interest as I think it shows a balanced view of how things are moving.
