Let's have another Tea Party

I'm an American and yet I find myself sickened by how those of us who go about life obeying the law and doing the right thing are always getting screwed over. I mean our politicians don’t want to help us out with these outrageous gas prices but they have the time and money to create a new Lincoln Penny that comes out next year that will cost the United States government 33 cents for each penny made because they are going back to the original copper material. Maybe we need to have our own version of the Boston tea party to get the lawmakers attention or if we keep everything the same let’s vote everyone out and have congress made up of average US citizens not just the upper class like it is with jury duty.

It’s time for a change our country is dying and John McCain and Barack Obama are not the answer for getting us back on track.

I recommend you join the Ron Paul revolution. Get educated and get involved with other people. Your angst is a starting point, but channeling your energy in a positive and informed direction will be what generates results.

Protests are a waste of time. You have to change the system, and you can do that by being informed and acting in concert with others to make positive changes.

The first Boston Tea Party was unjustifed and ridiculous if you actually look at it and I think this one would be as well right here at the moment. The penny thing is ridiculous but not worth a revolt or anything lol

Our Government is screwed up and we need to let them know we are not going to take it anymore. They waste way to much money and our congress is just a joke. I feel like this really isn't a Democracy but a totalitarianism Government masquerading as a democracy. Once FDR took office it all went down hill. Join the Ron Paul revolution that's funny he's part of the current problem. I'd rather have Ross Perot than Ron Paul.

I don't know anything about this because I'm not from the states, but if the raw material cost of every penny is 33 cents, couldn't you just get tens of thousands of them, smoulder them down and sell the copper?

He even said in his OP "It’s time for a change our country is dying and John McCain and Barack Obama are not the answer for getting us back on track."

    RP is the man! :D

Yeah if you want to undo the political institutions created by FDR, Ron Paul is the only one running on that campaign platform - or anything like it.

Well. Hell. I'm gonna quit my business and start melting down pennies full time for some cash! Nothing like turning 1 cent into 33 cents for doing nothing. Suh-weet!

The cost may be 33 cents, but the actual melt value is probably closer to 3 cents. Not to mention that it is illegal.

    Still, $100,000 becomes $300,000.
Might be illegal but they're really asking for it by handing out 3 cents and calling it 1 cent.

Read again. It's ~1/2 a penny. The cost of the penny after production is about 1.25 cents. I think it should be fazed out, personally.

Who cares? In chemistry class in high school, we used to scratch off the copper coating on the penny, put it in acid to remove the zinc and get a hollow penny out of it. It was pretty cool.

That's right! Stick it to the man!

Lincoln Zinc Cent Value 1982-2008 Cent (97.5% zinc) *
    $0.01 $0.0052711 52.71%

Metal value $0.0052711 which is about 1/2 a cent.

The OP is talking about a *new* real copper penny. Hence one closer to early 20th century melt value.

There is not going to be a new "real copper" penny put out for general circulation. In 2009, there will be copper collectible penny put into production; those are collectible. Thus, the OP's original point is nonsensical. But it is an interesting case study in how moronic conspiracy theories come about.

As I said, the metal cost of your average useless penny is about 1/2 cent.

You can start by owning a gun, perhaps many of them, and encourage other like-minded individuals to do the same.

Accept yourself for who you are and I'd look into survivalism. When the slaves come to your place to loot and steal after they've been cheated their unconscious deal with the devil, thats when you make candy bowls out of craniums for children to use for the next Halloween.

That's why I don't obey the law and "do the right things".
