What do you think the effects would be if... A nuclear bomb exploded somewhere in the middle of the USA. Nobody was killed, or hurt in any way. The bomb has an output of 10 kT TNT. The makers of the bomb are totally unknown, there are no leads. What do you think would happen?
I think this would cause a whole new batch of wars and basically get us one step closer to a police state. Nice thread jumpboy. This is something that will make people think for themselves for sure about these possibilities.
no, I mean a bomb not authorized by any USA agency, although it explodes within USA soil. I think we might go to war, then things might get so bad that we have a revolution.
I'd agree, Kaethy - but not all the time. Louis XIII bankrupted his country to support the American Revolution against the British, and these privations, coupled with a disastrous harvest, were key to his downfall. Now, Louis's France was a personal realm, a garden-state serving at the pleasure of the King, and not a nation-state, with all its modern, congealing instruments in the name of "nationhood"; nevertheless, Louis's downfall should be a lesson to a wise leader - hardships endured in the name of some far-off venture in "liberty" can only be sustained for so long.
Yes, but that bankruptcy lead to people not being able to afford necessities like bread. When a large portion of the population is starving, that's a cause for revolution. So maybe indirectly it was because of Louis helping America, but the reason in the eyes of the French people was that they were struggling to survive while their king was living a lavish life.
I think that it would cause increased tension in an already volatile situation, and likely be blamed on foreign terrorists. The fact that there are no leads, however, suggest a much more complex chain of events that would lead to the explosion, and would probably cause quite a few problems in and of themselves. I also think that fact would be used as an excuse to further certain military and political careers, and begin a new war in whatever country was causing the most opposition at the time, or provided the most logical profit-gains.
well i think if a bomb went off in the middle of the usa, no one was hurt how about property damage? I think it would be a inside job only rednecks would be in the middle of the usa not any particular area and 0 people hurt.
LOL - seeing your reply, saw that I said Louis XIII - that would be Louis XVI....only off by a couple of cardinals, and generations... Anyway, agreed - perceptions as much as anything else were key. But the extravagance had always been there - the "cérémonie du Grand Couvert'' of Louis XIV was publically viewed, a bizarre kind of vicarious thrill for the subjects, to watch Louis, "The Sun King" stuff his gorge. But bad fiscal policy, the exogenous shocks to the economy (not the least of which was a truly abysmal harvest), coupled with the burgeoning national sense engendered by Louis's recall of the various parlements, and Marie's "foreignness" - well, the die was cast.
well, The french revolution was really just the middle class saying 'my turn!' when the king faltered. And think about it: an atomic bomb exploded, the government is totally unable to do anything about it, another may go off at any moment, why are they restricting our right to XXX and fighting in YYY instead of doing something about it? No property damage, either. The point was nothing (physical) was actually destroyed, what happens?
Damn that sounds annoyingly familiar to me. Oh wait, ha, I remember now, that's called the Iraq war only it was 9/11 instead of a nuclear explosion.
Actually, I think Iran is safe for the moment. The real problem there would be if Israel were to decide to turn their simulated attacks into real warfare. I think that out attention is elsewhere at the moment...
