Ok, jimnoble, I have just looked at you signature and can see that you are a real DMOZ editor! Ok, so what advices would you provide for people who will read the post on how to have a website listed by DMOZ as soon as it is possible? Is there is any way to speed up this procedure?

Short answer: None at all, sorry.

Longer answer: the ODP is edited by volunteers, who spend their hobby time doing one or more of the many editing activities available. One of those activities is finding sites to add to the directory, and they might find them in all sorts of places, including the collection of suggestions made by people such as yourself. So if an editor finds a useful site somewhere, and if he has permissions to edit in the category where it belongs, he might list it immediately, within seconds of discovering it. You can't get faster than that. ;)
The thing is, none of us has any way of knowing where an editor might look for sites, or when. Obviously there is no way to speed up such an un-knowable process.

By suggesting a site, you have simply increased the chances of a volunteer finding it, IF he or she chooses to look at suggested sites, rather than, say, searching the internet, reading a newspaper or browsing a local business directory. Suggesting it more than once is counterproductive, wasting volunteer time and overwriting previous suggestions. Excessively repeated suggestions can be seen as spamming, and nobody likes spammers.

As far as I see the only way to speed up this procedure is to have a friend - DMOZ editor! :)

No, sorry, that's got nothing at all to do with it. I have added nearly 25,000 sites to the ODP, and I certainly don't have that many friends. ;)

But seriously, any editor who acts unfairly towards a site (in a positive or negative way) is not acting impartially, and is likely to be in trouble for that.
