Google supports Firefox (obviously because you get paid to refer someone) Firefox lists AdBlock as a top 5 extension If everyone went to Firefox and found out they could block tiresome ads then Google would lose money. Things that make you go , hmmmm
i also noticed this, it must be one of the top downloaded extensions, really google only supports the google toolbar, since you only get paid to refer someone to firefox WITH the google toolbar
It's a freedom to choose, but of course, the more popular the extension, the more Google will lose money, but if Google ask Firefox to remove that extension, everybody will talk about it.
Google supposedly supports firefox, but all their latest goodies for Google toolbar only work on IE! Makes you go hmmmmm!
hmm that's a big threat to this ad-based internet economy if lot n lot of people started using these..
Somehow, there will be a person who will come and reverse the code silently, and Google ads start appearing, but not others
I think adblocker shud not block non intrusive ads. This is the same logic behind ad-skipping on a tivo. Lot of sites are funded by ads and blocking ads shud not be allowed.
I think those are just custom made extensions made by firefox users, and which ever extension is downloaded the most will appear on top. I don't think firefox is supporting any of the extensions.
You can get all kinds of different definitions from different people. The trouble here is the same problem I have with my programmers. 90-95% of the computing public uses IE. My coders always code for Firefox. The first thing I do when they hand over completed code is open it in IE and count the bugs. I think in the short term our advertising community is safe from this threat. BTW... If you haven't tried FireFox yet, download FireFox for free before you comment here. It really is a good browser. But more importantly, you have to look at the big picture as Google does. Google presently derives most of its revenue from online advertising. However, they have publicly acknowledged that their profitability in this field will fall in the next couple years as new advertising networks enter the marketplace and force Google to pay more to its publishers to keep them from jumping ship. Naturally, Google will have to replace those profits from somewhere. Their only long-term competitive threat is really Microsoft. Therefore promoting FireFox now, reduces Microsoft's sphere of influence, and therefore their power to compete with Google in the future. Wow... I just realized this is kind of like the Cold War. In the Cold War small countries became proxy battles between the USA and the USSR to diminish / extend each country's sphere of influence. Same thing here. FireFox is the pawn that Google is helping by monetarily promoting its use. Cool idea
