It's quite interesting that we've not had a definitive answer on this one yet from Shawn. He's normally quicker to blow an idea out of the water than this, so he might be seriously considering. Seems a pretty good idea to me and if it's limited to say $2 per drink there's less chance of it being abused. Current poll stats are about 80% in favour.

But surely, green dots are a better way to express appreciation and gratitude than money! :p

    It won't work.

Perhaps a system where you can actually buy someone a drink, that sounds much better...

we need more options, not just beer. Mixed drinks for 3.50, double shots 4 bucks, nothing more than 5 bucks though. :)

Well, that may not buy you drinks in the US anymore, but it sure does in Costa Rica ;)

Ok umm sorry guys for this but its a bad idea...read..

    Pros:

    More social interaction
    Better Relations
    Less "spamish/non buying" activity
    Better envoirnment
lets say its a social interaction hack

    Cons
    Might lead to phished pages
Mods will be held in charge in case some moron buys the wrong person a drink
    you know thats gonna happen
Buyers remorse - Dispute thraeds as to why the other guy never bought the buyer a drink as well
    Greed
    More work on mods
    More dispute threads

Shawn says : "Umm no thanks, i dont want to have a bunch of alcoholic users going around on my forum. it ends up with more work on mods anyway"

Rob says: "Lets break out da beers!"

I say : "I don't think shawn will do it, id kidnap col's cat either way :)"

So...yea..not gonna happen, no reason in being happy here =/

    1. Might lead to more phishing pages: We're talking PayPal here - everyone in this community is wise to PayPal phishing scams because we've seen them all before.
    2. Mods held accountable: It's up to the person receiving the 'drinks tip' to decide what they spend it on - the mods can't be held accountable for that.
    3. Greed: Possible we could get another Stealer type member who posts 1000 times a day just to increase their drinks bonuses. I'd say it's unlikely though because they'll be recognised, just as he was.
    4. More work for mods: I don't think so. All the members here are sensible enough to decide how they spend their PayPal dollars and the way they do that is not really anything to do with the mods. It should be a simple case of the admin installing a little bit of script to get the system running. Disputes can be dealt with by PayPal as they with every other purchase (although since it's a donation you can't really appeal once you've made it).
    5. More dispute threads: I disagree on this one - the first the recipient will know they've been bought a drink when $X lands in their PayPal account - they'll probably not be able to recognise the sender's details because they invariably won't be the same as their DP username. If they don't know who the sender is they can't be expected to reciprocate.

That's not how shawn would look at it and you know that.
The answer will be "You can just use reputation for that".

As a wise man once said...Sorry, not going to happen!!! :)

Well, if he had something to post then I guess he would, I don't think that this is terribly worthy of any attention (sorry... lol) - just think it's hell funny that there are so Shawn wanna-be's here. Yeah, sure - he is successful, but pretending to know what anyone would say or think is just silly. Think G-net needs to settle down... lol
