I started a new project today, not for making big money, just as a challenge to get some google traffic to the site. I registered the domain: www.parentdirectory.nl (.nl is dutch) and via htaccess I made the site an open directory. Searching within open directories is still very popular, so I thought it can be a nice way to promote stuff. A kind of web directory, but without the fancy layout. Just to the point, the visitors searches for "parent directory doc poems" in google, and he will get an open directory full of docs with poems. A nostalgic thought, make a website how it was as in the beginning of internet. Well, time for some linkbuilding, the problem is that many sites (web directories) don't link open directories with the main reason that it isn't count as a real website. It's just a backdoor accidentally left open. I'm just curious, how would you promote this website (without any paid advertising)..?
There is plenty of link building websites, blogs, and forums that allow advertising material. If you view them statistically, you can focus like a sniper and pick the ripe berries
The question isn't if they allow paid advertising, the question how to linkbuild this site with the knowledge that directories are not very keen with just an open directory, a website that doesn't seems to be a website. But in this case it is one...
