Less Means More _ Is That True?

    I was told that in google adsense that the less ads you display on your page the more they pay…ie: if I displayed 3 ads the CPC would be less than if I had 1 ad. Is this true?

    The best thing to do is try variations and find out what works best for YOUR site.

    Not less ads but single ad as on the TOP of DP pays you highest, but many peoples don't use this that why they don't take advantage of this.

    If all three ads were the same on one page, and you had one ad that was the same on one page... they all pay the same. The trick to getting more per click is simply the content you publish. A good way to check this is to go on Google Adwords and use the Keyword tool.

    What is important is not CPC it's eCPM and from my experience the more adsense blocks you have the higher the eCPM, so I let others play with their CPC...

    Yes if you show lesser ads then it is better. But if you show more, then it is also better. It all depends on the type of website and design.

    Well, basically adsense are trying their best to give your the highest CPC ads. If you have 3 ads, mean they are giving you the top 3 highest CPC ads, mean the more ads you display, the CPC of the following ads is getting lower. Less ads is good in CPC but it might not good for the CTR, or vice versa. So, you gotta check it out on your website.

    lifeplayer, I think adsense order the ads not by their cpc but by their individual ecpm, that is a combinaison of CPC and CTR. At least that what I would do. So if you have only one ad, yes those ads will pay the most (ecpm) but with more ads your global ecpm will be better in most cases, at least that's the result I got last time I made the experience.

    eCPM is your estimate earning per thousands impression by calculate base on your current status. This value is keep changing every new impression.
    For example, you get 100 impression, 1 click, $1CPC, eCPM will display $10, but when you are getting 200 impression (unfortunately you have no extra click this time), 1 click, $1CPC, you eCPM will drop to $5.

    The number of ads will not affect the eCPM directly, eCPM is based on your website performance

    It depends on the web page space allocated and the type of ads displayed. Plus it varies from site to site.

    @lifeplayer, in my post to you I was talking about individual ad's eCPM only, not about other thing. I believe that's how adsense orders the ads. By eCPM and not by CPC only. It's in their interest to show the best eCPM ads in the best positions.
    I hope you understand what I mean by highest eCPM ads. eCPM is a combinaison of CPC and CTR. So adsense is in my opinion ranking individual ads by their eCPM, not by their CPC only.

    You don't understand what the os asking, s/he is asking the ads unit, not the number of ads in individual unit. Your way only work for the second case. Besides, you are keep saying ecpm is combination of ctr and cpc, I know this well but I doubt that you can write out the actually formula to show the relationship between the ecpm, ctr and cpc

    lifeplayer, I understood very well the question of the OP since it is nothing new. I answered first to him that in my experience more adsense blocks meant better eCPM for me. Then I answered in a second post to you, talking about something a little different because you said:
    "Well, basically adsense are trying their best to give your the highest CPC ads."
    I answer simply that I don't think adsense tries to give you the highest CPC ads, but the highest eCPM ads.
    It simply means that a high CPC is worth nothing if the text of the ad is so poorly written that it's CTR is very low. In that case the eCPM of the ad will be very low also. On the other hand an ad with a lower CPC but with a text well written will have a higher CTR, so as a result its eCPM will be higher, and so in my opinion, this second ad will be ranked higher than the first ad.

    That's all there is to it really. After you doubt something from me, like if I don't know what I'm talking about, fine, I don't care what you believe really, I don't have to justify myself to you, but just for the sake of knowledge try that:
    eCPM = CTR * CPC * 10

    @JamesColin

    Actually all those information is based on adsense, no one can 100% sure. everyone might get different finding after test on it. And it doesnt matter as long as the owner are getting the best revenue. The most important is test on it and get the result

    It same happen to the formula, many people are using the formula as you mentioned,
    eCPM = CTR * CPC * 10 , but the actual formula shall be eCPM = CTR * CPC * 1000 (why multiply 1000 because it is estimate earning per "1000 impression"). I dont mean you are wrong, but i believed that you might think i'm wrong....lol

    Check the below sample, you will know what i trying to say, CTR=1%, CPC=$1
    eCPM = CTR * CPC * 1000
    eCPM = 1% X $1 X 10 = 0.01X$1X1000 =$10

    Your formula is getting $0.1. But the truth is you are nothing wrong because you simplify the formula to
    eCPM = CTR X 100% X CPC X 1000/100% = CTR X CPC X 10 (CTR is the figure without percentage) which are actually give the same result.
