i believe this question has been asked in the forum already, but i didnt find any thread about it in particular. so... i know that the more ads are displayed on the page, the bigger are the chances for all the low paying adverts (with low bid) to be displayed, and hence there is a risk of 1-2 cent clicks. if i only have, lets say, half a banner ad - for only one advert on the page, this means only the highest bid is displayed and if clicked - it brings maximum revenue. this is what i knew so far. can someone acknowledge or disagree with this? (i mean if we put aside the fact that too many ads are annoying) is it really better to displays as less ads as possible to maximize the revenue?
I have heard this as well. I tried that technique before to just have one banner ad on my site, but still noticed getting some clicks as low as 3-4cents sometimes, while other times getting about 20-25 cents.
Very true. But then, it might also lead to a drop in CTR as ther will be only 1 ad block available for you instead of 3
For me, on my site, I make sure that adblocks that are there, are never empty. Empty blocks means that the ones that are showing contain some of the lowest paying ads. It is not wise to just pick the smallest adblock. Pick adblocks that fit your site, and take google's advice on what adblocks perform best. These things aren't black and white. You have to test what works best in your niche - and for popular pages it pays to optimize them separately (after you're done optimizing in general).
it's a philosophy, based on this whole bid-price concept pulled from adwords, if u use adsense u should know... person a pays 50$ for per ad for keyword Lorelei person b pays 30$ for per ad for keyword Lorelei person c pays 10$ for per ad for keyword Lorelei so if a published has place for only one ad on the page, and the main keyword is "lorelei", only the ad from person a will be published, and if clicked, it will bring u a few dollars. if u have space for 3 ads on the page (large rectangle or something), ads from all the 3 people will be published, and if the ad of person c is clicked, u will get something measly. dunno if i managed t explain it properly...
its sometimes works for me that i got higher click rate on those pages which have 1 or 2 ads, but not at all, I could answer "YES" less ads=more click rate but it drops CTR
