Less ads = more per click?

If I had 2 of the same sites but one site had a adblock with 3 links in it.
The other had a adblock with 4 links in it.

Would the one with 3 links in it get a higher cost per click?

As I don't know if its true or not but I thought google puts the highest CPC ads on your site that suits your site and so the more ads you show... the more lower it gets.

    e.g.
    1st link = $0.50
    2nd link = $0.38
    3rd link = $0.25
    4th link = $0.17

or am I talking a load of crap?

    Some incite please :D

It depends on the quality of your site and the content rather you get high CPC. The amount of ads are less important than if you have a good quality site that relates well to the ads. I am not sure where you got the formula you listed but have to say it is crap.

Generally, the ads appearing first in your source code are the higher paying ones.

Google is weird in putting the ads, for example on some site I have a page A about subject X1 and page B about subject X2, sometimes on page A I get X2 ads, although the page has nothing to do with that subject.
I also wonder if the CPC does vary from publisher to publisher, like if you change the publisher id from one site and add a new one, is it going to make the same money as the previous? anyone tested this?

google will serve you high cpc ads on the top of the page(first loaded ads) and lower cpc at the bottom of the page(last loaded ads).
So, on the site with 4 adsense units you'll have more clicks, but the average cpc will be low, because some of those clicks were on low cpc ads.
On your site with 3 ads, the average cpc will be higher, but you'll have fewer clicks.

That's why the webmaster should decide what's best for his site. If you have a rich content page you could ad 4 adsense units or even more. If your page has less content, a single ad unit should do the work.
Ads should not bother users very much.

If thats true then I think less ads and higher clicks is better as it takes up less room on the page and the clicks are better :D

Today I got a click from page with 468X60 standard banner with two links shown for .05$ and got another one where three links are shown for .19$....
    I doubt this technique works.

Adsense is based on an auction system, so its quite an obvious assumption that the less ads you have, the higher the bids needed to fill the ad space. Ask the top adsense earners, and they'll all tell you the same.

The reason there higher priced is because the first link in the source code generally gets more scanned/highly ranked.

If it does work and people reduce the amount of ads on their site... it will cost advertisers more :D
