I was actually thinking the same thing. So here's the deal with "less ads more money." To a certain extent, it's true. If you're getting a really low CTR on other AdSense ads, I would simply remove them. However, if you have 3 ad blocks on your page and they're all receiving a pretty good CTR then go ahead and leave them be. Again, I don't think Google would say to use the max amount of ads if it weren't true. UPDATE: Testing continued - Earning more money still... Getting way more per click.
Please tell me if you got any improvement with your experiment. I am also planing to replace all my link units by ad units. All webmaster can also respond to this if they get paid well for ad units as compare to link units. Thanks in advance
Here's what I do, I figure out what the best performing ad spot is CTR wise, and only place that one ad. If it gets a decent CTR your CPC's will be higher and your overall CPM will be MUCH higher because users will be clicking on the highest paid ads always.
yeah I'm trying to figuring it out... so far I'm getting better ctr on in-video ads than any placement....
I have had "less ads=more money" work on some sites, but strangely on one site I experienced exactly the opposite! When I used only the ad block with the highest click through rate, my earnings per click did not go up and the number of clicks went down! Even though the click through rate on the other ads on the page was much lower, I get more clicks on the higher paying ads when the others are there. Perhaps the exception that proves the rule, but it just goes to show that testing is only really valid for the site you are testing.
I wrote a blog post about more money with less Ads?. I am working together with Adsense for 2 years and consider myself to be relatively experienced. Earning more with less Ads is not possible except under some very special circumstances. You would need to greatly increase your CPC to earn more.
