Hi Recently I been participating a fun contest, that the user Legendary11 was running here in DP. http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1774733 I did not win this contest (congratulations for the winner, btw), but was very pleased with my own design, I must say. So I then decided to put it on my portfolio website. The question of copyrights and legitimate of the thing, came across my mind. So I asked a permission from Legendary11 to use it, since it is, his title. He of course agreed . But I'm thinking about other users, or companies, that might wont like the idea that there name is being used to promote others. I thought about putting the question up here, and wonder what you all think about it. I mean, if we as designers, design some work, using someone else name or title, do we have the privilege to use it for our own use? Thanks
It all depends on the agreement between you and the client. I personally make it part of the agreement that they have a link back to my site in th footer (and i give them a discounted price) and if they want to remove the link they can pay a miniscule fee. But it would be best to email them before you put their site in your portfolio just to cover your back. Most people don't mind because it is also a linkback and promotion.
