How legal is it to use a photo off of google image search? If I used a picture of a car how could they argue it was infact their photo and not a similar picture of the same kind of car?
Whose arguing with you? If its from a copyright protected site, then i pretty much guess they have the reason to ask you to remove the picture or so.
I would not use images.google.com for photographs at all. To be 100% sure, use royalty-free stock photographs from istockphoto (for example). If you're going to use the photo for commercial uses, it is even riskier..
In a world of Lawsuit happy individuals looking for a quick buck, as well as those that sue for the actual Justice. It's just better NOT to take a photo from someone else without permission. Doing so is just asking for trouble down the road. Even if you are a designer & think that by using a copyright image on a clients site, that it will make them liable & you are in the clear.... """ WRONG """.... They will most surely inform the legal parties that you are the one that designed it. As they say in the corporate world, The snow ball rolls down hill. Just don't do it!
you can use the stuff on morguefile.com as long as you don't sell the images (or prints of the images) directly or claim the photos are yours.
morguefile.com is an awesome site! Anyone know of other sites of similar nature? Re: the legality, it probably isn't. But just think, would you like someone stealing your images to put up on their site without permission?
There are so many sites now that you can get images for less than a dollar, that you don't need bother with borrowing some one else's photo's and getting into legal trouble.
I agree totally with 8everything.. Here is the biggest list of Stock Photography sites I know of. http://www.bluevertigo.com.ar/bluevertigo.htm
My advice is to use free stock images sites to go for images like that. There will definitely be issues. Here in my place a local jewellery shop had to remove their banner just because they used the same photo used by a bigtime jewellery. Shit happens.
