I am planning on establishing a lyrics website. Unfortunately, i heard some negative legal issues against these types of websites. Some of them say that few lyrics website are being shutdown due to some problems with the law such as copyright and infringement.

What should I do to establish a LEGAL lyrics website? What parts of the law are usually being violated by lyrics website webmasters?

I would appreciate some good comments.

They are republishing without consent, works with copyrights. To get around it, get consent from whoever has the copyright on each set of lyrics or publish only lyrics which have passed into the public domain (twinkle twinkle, mary had a little lamb, etc.).

I was recently going to do the same exact thing but the costs were way to high to run one in my case. When I contacted a license registry they said a basic quote was around $4000/Month just for the license fee alone! Now that gave you access to a list of over 1,000,000 proof-read lyrics...but still I don't think its worth it, you need a massive budget if you want to start one legally.
