Legal Issues of having a unknown source

    I'm not in this position yet, but obvously gadget blogs and websites receive tips and images from informants that leak info and images of upcoming gadgets all the time.

    Engadget has made plenty of posts like this.

    Is there any legal issue from using information given to you by an informant.

    whether or not it's "actually illegal" is one issue, but not the only one. if you plan on having a lot of this sort of stuff-- especially if it's exclusive, and you're the first one to get it out there-- plan on getting cease and desists. whether or not the cease and desists are or aren't with merit is another story entirely, but you should be prepared that they'll probably be coming.

    some of them will have no legal merit at all, some have legit merit but they're still just largely blowing smoke and won't do anything even if you don't remove it, and some are a legitimate chance to take things down before they move on to something more serious (ie, a lawsuit).
