Hey, I need advice on how to deal with this issue. Back in March, I applied for a merchant account from Internet Secure. My account was registered successfully but it wasn't activated. For the activation, their employee asked me to send a VOID check with the name of my business on it. I replied 3-4 times mentioning that I don't have a bank account under my business' name (I was planning to open a small online business) After 10 days, I received an email from their employee reminding me that their free setup deal is ending in 6 days. I replied to his email 4-5 times saying that my account has already been registered but I need to get it activated. I again received no reply. A week ago, I received a letter in my mail from a collector agency. They said that I owe Internet Secure Inc. around $370 CAD. I contacted Internet Secure regarding this issue, I got no reply. After 2 days, I had to send the same email again. The lady from their side kept blaming me that I hadn't responded to their emails. When I asked her what emails, she said that they sent emails to my site address (I shut my business down in April so I didn't bother checking the emails). I am starting to get calls from their collector agency. What are the options do I have? Should I go ahead and pay off the money? I don't understand why I should pay them around 5-6 months of monthly fees when my account wasn't even activated, when I couldn't make even one successful transaction? Someone suggested that I should write a letter to their director/CEO. Should I do that? Thanks a lot for your support sudn3sc3d
First of all, send something on written paper to them and keep a photocopy. Check their terms of service if they are allowed to charge you in this way. Don't pay them. Ruins your credit history and it just lets them bill you more. If they say they send you emails, that is a really bad case on their part. Usually for legal issues you need to send something on paper.
Contact the collection agency right away and inform them that you are disputing the charges... This will essentially put a hold on it so it's not ruining your credit while its being handled. Well, with the way the credit system is setup, I'm sure simply disputing a charge is considered a bad thing, but it beats letting it rack up as being unpaid for x amount of months and possibly incurring interest...
Thanks for your advice. I'll mail/fax Internet Secure a document regarding my problem. I will also get in touch with the collection agency Thanks guys
I have printed out a document and faxed it to the collection agency and Internet Secure (sent it to Vice-President, Merchant Services and Director, Business Development) Let's see what happens next.. Thanks
