Legal benefits of offshore hosting?

I was wondering, if I was to have a website hosted in say Panama or Malaysia which sold counterfeit goods. Would there be the legal problems?

I realise that if the site was hosted in the US or Europe or someone within the US or Europe was seen to be linked with the site there could be legal problems.

However the site was hosted anonymously, would it even be possible for prying eyes to find anyone involved, and if they did how secure would the people involved be legally?

    Regards, Bob

If the us government wanted to find out, they could. If you imported those counterfeit goods into America or most other countries you would be held accountable under that countries' laws for importing it. That being said, if you are an American, and you are hosting outside the US, you can still be held accountable under US Laws for distributing if you manage your server or access it in any way from the US. Why not just find a legal way to make money and go that way.

Yea, its just because I have a HUGE customer database for the business. I'll probably sell the customer's details to a similar site and sell unbranded clothing.
