If you think about it, Paypal just finally used logic. It costs them nothing unless they have to get the money from a credit card.
Wise choice It sucks but that's the way it is... This is not a generic term - it's a brand name and you would definitely lose more if they pursued the case further. Try to forget about it... hopefully it wasn't making you much money. And just to brighten up the mood here - one of my first regs (if not THE first) was WindowsXPProfessional * com .... You can understand why I had to learn about TMs
soryy to bother Arrisweb, since my question for u is a bit out of discussion, but can u pls confirm me one thing that whether u have received the mail from the other hosting company or the owner of the domain. And also as someone else pointed out if u were the first one to register the domain name it is not problem at all, and also if the fields that the domains deal changes even in that case also it is no problem. Just to add, these all thinks, i.e the trademark and its infringement depends on the country u live and treaties it has signed globally. So pls check them once that whether the country in which u live has any trademark governing Act and whether it is a member in the international treaties dealing with these things.
If you need to do a US trademark search, go to: http://tess2.uspto.gov/bin/gate.exe?f=tess&state=4005:v0fg2m.1.1 The term web hosting spot doesn't appear to be trademarked there, and there is no indication on their site that they have the term trademarked.
Trademarks do not need to have any official registration in the US. It's called a common law trademark, established by first usage.
