Leaving Ad Network

Too many updates, fooling around, and requirements to make this worth my while. Not to mention I haven't seen any traffic from it yet. Make it easy or this isn't going to work. Requiring links on all pages in just not acceptable. It's my site, I choose where links go.

When/If you decide to fix it, I may give it another go.

You are complaining about a free service and how it should be "easy" for you... ever think about making it easy on the person writing the code that makes it possible, or the resources it would take to make it work if you got to place the ads on pages you choose? If you would have voiced your opinion in a professional manner, rather than being a prick about it- people might have listened.

"Make it easy or this isn't going to work"

Seems to work pretty well for everyone else on this forum.

And your choice on whether to participate or not. Don't want to do what is required? Then don't participate.

    Hmmm... interesting...

What exactly did you accomplish by throwing this public wobbly? Other than make you look like a spoiled child who can't have the world revolve the way HE thinks it should, that is.

    Let see...
    It's a free service
It had all the requirements layed out for you to read BEFORE you signed up, which obviously you did not.
Many, many people have had extraordinary results from the co-op...

Who loses if you storm off in a huff? No one here that's for sure.

Hmmm, lets see... I have a niche website in portuguese, normally in this conditions I would see no results in other ad-networks...

Well, this is not the case... In 6 days I got 886 hits from a specific keyword wich is #1 thanks to the COOP!

You can see the attachment were my keyword was and were it is now... I don't quite understand how the keyword tracker gave me a position #3, it was always a #1 when I searched for it... :)

So, you were saying it doesn't work? LOL!

If you're *that* piqued at updates, fooling around and requirements; then I *strongly* suggest you unplug your computer, sell it or give it away, and just completely walk away from technology completely.....

My results so far from the coop have so far been mixed. This is mostly becasue I have a weight of 14. That's not the coop's fault, heck, it isn't even my fault, it's just a matter of google getting around to indexing more of my site. I've taken steps to make that happen, and Gbot is, even as I write this, once again hitting the site. It's only a matter of time.

As far as the updates go I can tell you as a fellow PHP coder that stuff almost NEVER works right the first time, or the second for that matter. You can know exactly what the code should do, but you can never know exactly what it WILL do until you test it. Sometimes it's a glaring screwup, sometimes it's very subtile and may take a while before a problem shows up. In either case all you can do is fix it and move on. It's the nature of the beast and always has been.

One thing I've thought about doing is auto-updating the PHP code. The problem though is it becomes a security risk and a liability on my end. You would need to make the ad_network.php file writable for one. But more importantly as a site admin I sure wouldn't want PHP code to be coming down dynamically from a 3rd party server that is automatically executed. That's the reason it doesn't auto-update (in case anyone cares). :)

Not-So-SmartHost might be scared Shawn's gonna pull a Billy. Like how Bill Gates stitched us up with faulty software, then asking for money for the fix.

Hey as long as we get an E Mail to tell us to update what more can we ask?

    It's FREE isn't it??????

You don't get update notification with many scripts you pay for!!!!!!!!

    Lets see:

Shawn notifies us of an update
Copy and paste the new code.
    Push the save button.
Depending on your setup: upload one file one time; or maybe ya have to upload
the file a couple of times.
    *Real* exhausting work ....

Udderly ridiculus post by smarthost. I've been dickering around with the coop since the middle of Dec. 04. I ran into problems with my ISP allowing modification of .htaccess and other issues. I beat my head day in and day out - not because of the code but because of inherit problems with my ISP, BUT I DIDN'T GIVE UP. And today I finally got it up and going NOT because of me BUT BECAUSE OF THE GREAT AND UNSELFISH PEOPLE IN THIS FORUM that helped me out.

    Thanks everyone!

In my case it's impossible for me to participate. Google thinks certain pages exist on my site, which return errors, for which there are no ads. Until Google wises up, I've got to agree - the ad on every page requirement is preventing me from participating.

I have results similar to eduardo earlier. They fluctuate wildly, and I think too many sites put the network on some really really crappy pages - which will never ever drive traffic nor backlinks, but its free, so its not a huge whoop. The main site I promote with the network ranks for some pretty weird (meaning unintended) terms because of the amount of backlinks I get.

Well... you don't have to have it on EVERY page. Either every page, or JUST one. or a subdirectory ex: www.mysite.com/forum/ Put the exact url in the setup. As long as Google knows about it it's good.

As for the comment made... it's free. Thus... he/she 's FREE to use it or not. Don't like it? Make your own. :D
