    LOL. :)

    Have you read about this?

Kiana Firouz, a lesbian from Iran, is trying to get asylum in the UK, but has been denied. It sounds like if she's sent back, she would most likely be tortured or killed. She has made a film, Cul-de-sac, that is based on her life. It deals with the oppressive situation lesbians face in Iran.

You can also sign a petition to help her here.

I knew you were kidding:), it was Columbia University. He said, "In Iran, we don’t have homosexuals like in your country…. We don’t have that in our country.” LOL.

Sure. For the next few days though, I'm not going to have any time. I've been trying to get my AC fixed, but yesterday they said EVERYTHING needs replaced. That's the inside unit with the duct, and the outside, and it's going to take about two days. Not sure if I'll even have electricity while they're working. But, they'll start tomorrow -- so, I'm looking forward to cold air soon! I can commit to having that to you by Wednesday evening. :)

    AWESOME! :) :) :)

I decided to see what Singapore was like back in Stamford Raffles day and turned the AC off for a few days when the wife was out of town. Holy hell -- I am not as tough as our ancestors.

Women Against Shariah has new information about the retard in that photo.

He's "Jersey Jihadist" Carlos Almonte and...
The 24-year-old terror suspect's bombast was nowhere to be found in a New Jersey courtroom yesterday when he and buddy Mohamed Alessa were denied bail for being flight risks.

A frazzled-looking Almonte, his hands in cuffs and his legs in shackles, kept his eyes locked to the floor during the brief court appearance.

Alessa, in contrast, acted like a clown, laughing and smirking.

Their lawyers - both public defenders - refused to comment after the hearing.

Almonte and Alessa, 20, were collared Saturday at Kennedy Airport. Prosecutors say they were planning to catch a flight to Africa to wage jihad alongside Al Qaeda-linked militants.

    Thanks. :)

LOL, same here -- I'm not very good at "roughing it". This has actually been going on for awhile, and I've gone through three different repair men, all with slightly different stories. But whatever, at least it's finished now, and the house is down to a cool 78 f.

But, just so they don't say this thread is off topic -- Here's a video related to the leave Islam bus ads:

I think the link you mentioned doesn't show all the reality of Iranian condition now. according to our law the article was right but according to our culture and society not right at all.

for axample according to our law women can't apeal for divorse and it is in hand of men but it has an axception, when we marry have to sign an agreement, some of them are common and in the end it has some amendments. one of these amendment is accepting divorce right for women that never heard girls accept marriage without getting this permission.

Islam laws and shariah laws always are in favor of men but unfortunately we can't enjoy it. I think if I have problem with my wife, even my family will support her till me.

God, isn't that always the way it goes? Custody of the kids goes the same way in American court rooms. Mom has to be a ragingly depressed suicidal drug addict and alcoholic to fall out of favor with the state. Maybe there is something to Sharia in this area ;)

Women and men seem always to be in conflict. I think we've made some progress in the last seven thousand or so years, but we've still got a long way to go.

depend on the living condition and education I think. in here women have some system of protection I think.
According to Islam traditionally men have to pay money for bring their bride to house. in most Islamic states should pay cash to father of the girl but in Iran we have another condition. men shouldn't pay any money for bride but in the marriage paper agreement (mentioned on my last post) should write a marriage portion settled on wife as debt of man to woman. most of the times this money is out of the man ability to pay and count in gold coin not a currency that could be diminish in the time. any time women can claim this money! and mostly this time will reach when that woman can't see her husband and love doesn't work anymore!
men are in charge of children and after divorce they are belong to men, just disposition when man was addicted. I saw many cases that women forgive their money instead of custody the children.

The differences in gender expectations among cultures has bizarre effects for my marriage.

My wife, who grew up in a Muslim family, was taught that women do not eat until the men are served. I'm a cowboy (yes, I have driven cattle). I believe "women and children first." I am also an efficiency freak. I know it takes her twice as long to eat, so I want her to get started. Today at lunch, her lasagna sat cooling while my pizza finished in the oven. Both the cowboy and the efficiency expert in me were annoyed, but she can't seem to break that part of her conditioning.

Walking down the street is funny, but it's an issue we resolved. Women in Islam are usually taught to walk behind men, because they are second-class citizens. I like the woman to walk in front of me, so that I can keep better watch on potential security issues. In our travels, we've experiences enough small security issues that she doesn't argue with me regarding this arrangement. Of course, it doesn't hurt that her sense of direction and location is amazingly good and that I can get lost going home. She's the navigator and I'm the security officer. :p

That depends upon your definition of Muslim. She was raised in a Muslim family and did about 14 years of religious education, but she never believed any of it.

I was (sort of) raised Christian.

We're living on borrowed time, until the day one of her less-Westernized relatives decides that the Quran requires for one or both of us be murdered.

One of her relatives tried to convince us to visit an Islamic nation that might be willing to enforce that particular Islamic law. We declined to visit. :p

We've been together to an Islamic nation which doesn't enforce that law on foreigners, but we were careful not to advertise our status as a "mixed" couple.

The relatives though... civil law doesn't mean much to a lot of those folks. Her favorite uncle was kidnapped and murdered by rival Muslims. That's an effective reminder to us of what will happen if we make a wrong step. He was living in Dar al-Harb, but they caught him during a visit to another country in Dar al-Islam. They kidnapped him and took him back to the home country before they murdered him. It appears that he took a long time to die.
