Learning to use Illustrator CS3 - SUPER hard than photoshop

I'm previously a photoshop user and stop using it for a few months due to my laptop problems. Now that I format my laptop, I can use it again. But after the laptop is working again, I find that Illustrator CS3 is installed in it and very ecstatic about it as I have been dying to have illustrator ever since I know what it can do.

So I tried to learn using it....and guess what? Doesnt even know how it works. I dont even know how to fill the colour manually. I'm not really great at photoshop but hey at least I know more than the basic by learning through tutorials. But illustrator. This is so freaking annoying. I cant do even a quarter of a tutorial! I dunno how to learn this. Can anyone help me?

 

I found exactly the same problem - with paths in photoshop you double click the color and the color menu comes up where you can pick a color and that's that. With illustrator, nothing seems to work that way..

 

I thought I'm the only one having trouble with that..so there's no other way to pick colour like photoshop then?

I will not use other software besides photoshop and illustrator,thanks. And I'll take a look at that.Thanks!
