Look for some top 10 ps tutorial sites on google and uhmm try to look for e-books, like "dummies for" and lynda just like the poster above me said.
I would highly suggest picking up a book that discuss design theory in general, then move into online tutorials/blogs/whatever about the particular topic you're interested in.
ya, I agree that you should learn design from hand drawing, if you used a software from beginning, you wouldn't learn how the design really is..

Try to start with 1 software at a time, let say photoshop...buy a book for beginner, get the feel and learn step by step. Take a look some of good tutorials online. Once you get familiar with 1 software, then you can go with another. Don't mix them up or you'll get confused easily. Cheers and good luck !
If there's a community college that offers graphic design classes on nights/weekends, you can take a class in your spare time. Reading design books helped me a lot. I have one book called "The Elements of Graphic Design: Space, Unity, Page Architecture, and Type" by Alexander W. White...it was really helpful! I'd put off learning software until you have a grasp of the basic concepts of graphic design.
