Learning this the hard way

I must say after my first week and a half of learning about the internet, making money online, and adsense with a LOT of help from people from this forums I am humbled.

In my first 2 days I bought two completely useless domains for $9.99 each, one USELESS website making program for $50 and 4 months of USELESS hosting for those websites for $40.

all of that was from go-daddy who I will admit is good at selling you on useless products.

after that I did buy a domain and hosting for a year for $100 from bluehost and while it is not earning for me yet I am hopefull that in a few months I will make a few dollars from it.

All in all though after spending $225 dollars and making .39 cents so far I am still being positive. I am 17 and Had $950 in the bank to begin with and yet I am still finding hope because I know that it is possible to earn online and that It simply takes time, more time, more time, and failures.

I guess the whole point behind this is post is because I am getting annoyed with all of the post I've seen daily with people who are mad at there low earnings, or mad they don't make anything with there 20 post blogger blog...

I wasted $225 dollars, made nothing, spent hours online daily working on my sites and yet I don't complain.

I think theres a few people here who need to do what I will be doing over the next few weeks. Think about something new. No website that has already been made is going to earn big for you, just like no "High paying niche" that already has 300 million sites is going to pay well for you starting now when other sites have been on it for years. People need to be original and stop looking for the quick easy way out. If it were quick and easy everyone would be hitting it big right ?

anyways thats enough of my rant, time to spend a few weeks thinking and planning...For anyone who is new to this or newer than me (2 weeks = adsense veteran ?) lol jk but anyone new I suggest you think a LOT about what makes your site you want to create unique, why people would want to visit it, what content you are going to add to it.

    ALSO

I suggest learning about seo BEFORE starting your site just like I suggest you ask more questions about hosting and what programs and site builders your host offers BEFORE getting started.

Don't be an idiot like me .... don't waste $225 dollars with no plan....I could be wrong but I think if everyone would just take the time to THINK more and plan everyone could be successful.

    wish me luck...thanks :p

Better advice...start out by using a free blog like blogger, wordpress, or something else that is free and you can learn on that.

It takes time. So many people think all they have to do is slap adsense on their site and they'll be raking in the Google dough. The reality is it takes work. You have to add content, do on page and off page seo and most importantly you have to promote promote promote.

When I started the site in my sig I would get a 2 cent click every few days and by the 6th month I made about 40 bucks but I kept at it and then in the 7th month it started to perk up a little and now 2 years later it's doing quite well for the niche it's in.

Use the domains you bought to learn...build sites and work them and you'll learn through hard work what you need to do then when you understand go after more when you know what you are doing. Still the #1 rule is build a site about something you love...it really is true that if you have a passion for what you are writing about you will do well.

thanks for all the replys, to those who said to keep building on the domains I do have I want you to know I am going too.

two of them I won't because I was smart enough to get 2 months hosting only, so I just will let those run out. But the site I spent $100 on I will run for the entire year, and if its making more than $1 a day at the end of this year It would obviously be worth it to keep it going ($100 for a years hosting, $1 a day for 365 days = 265 profits per year) so I will keep adding content to it although I don't even know if it will be making me $1 a day in a year because it is a gaming website.

    Gamerzport.com

So for the most part I am focusing now on trying to find a unique idea that nobody has done yet, who knows maybe I will get lucky and hit it well.

anywaysy thanks again for the responses so far and those to come.

When it comes to websites and blogs it takes lots of time, writing and research. Making money with adsense is no get rich plan...maybe for some it has happened, but not for the average person. From what I hear from people it sounds like it can even take a year or two before they start to see success. If you have the desire, you can make it happen.

Make a quality blog or website and attract more traffic through organic searches and article marketing. Making money online is not something for everyone as you need more patience and hard work if you want to succeed online, unless you have deep pockets to try PPC marketing. Its all hard work and fun to do it.

    Thanks

yea for my current game site I understand I need to work on seo.

But how do I get backlinks ... How do I work on seo. I have been reading guides but a lot of it confuses me. If I knew a few soild things I could start working on for seo I would do them because putting work in is not my problem it is simply not knowing what to do.

One thing I found that " One Should Never Jump". One should have patience and work in a systematic way. It takes time to promote and make money. One should first promote your website, get many visitors then only think of earning from the website by way of ads. Start with Blogspot, Wordpress, Squidoo. They are free. Learn from it. Don't waste money unnecessarily.

Good advice. We all make mistakes when starting out, it's normal (some make more expensive ones then others). At least you didn't do something like click your own ads half a dozen times (seems many do)...

Anyway, you're right about the need to learn SEO. To many people just show up here and expect posters to tell them how to make easy money. (Not going to happen!:)

Good luck. It sounds like you are off to a great start and I wouldn't be surprised if you do very well in the future...

I certainly went through the phrases which you went through. After a lot of research I am hitting around 100 us a month so don't give up :)

If you want to know more about link building and such then I really recommend keyword academy. It gave me a new insight into money making and I now have a few blogs set up for very specific niches (its only 1 US for a 30 day trial so there is nothing to lose).
