Python is a really good language to learn on. Its documentation is very clear and in-depth, it is very user friendly. It and Pascal are often considered "teaching" languages, but they can still be used to make real world programs. Much better to learn it, then another more complex languages (C++/C#/Java) instead of jumping straight in and trying to wade through complex syntax.

Hi, I've only dabbled with programming for a couple of years as I get time. It does seem that Python is a lot easier to learn than other languages at the outset. A question I have though:

Is Python at all a good language for graphics, animation, and serial input data?

Python is a programming language and it is freely available that makes solving a computer problem almost as easy as writing out one's thoughts about the solution. It can be written once and run on almost any computer without needing to change the program. It's also easy for beginners to use and learn . http://wiki.python.org/moin/BeginnersGuide/NonProgrammers

Python has clean and agile syntax, it's fast, well documented, well connected to C, has a lot of libraries, it's intuitive, and it's not perl.

You have done the right thing. Python has much simpler syntax as compared to JAVA/PHP etc. You can learn well by trying build small programs as in when you learn some concept
