I want to learn HTML+CSS. I was just wondering if i spend at least 3 hours a day studying it how quickly will i be able to write it fluently? Also, when people design websites do they learn ALL of the code or do they have a blank template of the code then add all the vital information? Thanks, Ben.
Get the books HTML for Dummies and CSS for Dummies. They really break everything down. After studying those books thoroughly (and through many mistakes) I was able to make my own forum hosting company.
Its very quick to learn. Its just practice by making loads of simple designs to understand how its structured and what each command is.
you can refer to w3schools, but I insist that to properly learn the div concepts, you must practise the slicing technique and also must learn some photoshop tutorials to make it easier to understand.
yes dude, but you must use tutorials. How is it done? make a layout of a site with photoshop, then convert it to xhtml/css and its done. Search with these keywords on google and you are done.keywords: convert psd to xhtml/css
Learn the basics of HTML from a book or website. There are hundreds of good resources to do this online, just put "html help" or "html tutorials" into the old google... Once you have the hang of that, start to play around with CSS... Then start looking at some more dynamic stuff when you are feeling more confident such as javascript, or PHP...
From my own experience, if you spend 3 hours a day, I should be able to design a website in two weeks.
yes thats correct if you use photoshop to code for you it makes to much useless code which is to bulky.
HTML + CSS learning resources: All these tutorials r free of cost. u just need to put ur time and effort. www.w3schools.com www.pixel2life.com - tutorial search engine www.html.net www.tizag.com ppl design site in photoshop and adobe page mill and some goes for notepad coding in css or html and if u r not an expert in coding then u can try WYSIWYG editor like MS frontpage, Adobe Dreamweaver Information and design or a template of a site r too different things when u will not have template how u will put info.? There are some free html+css template available, owsd.org is an example of free template site. Hope it will be help
I am a technical / application instructor and I teach both HTML and CSS. These guy's have pointed you in the right direction. W3schools will be your best friend. I would also suggest that you use gotapi as a reference site while your coding. If you are really interesting in learning html and css structure and layout then use nothing but notepad for the first few months and then move on to Dreamweaver. Being that you are starting right now you have GOT to understand that html is for structuring your data and css is for formatting and layout. The days of using tables have passed as css is much more powerful. Until you get used to choosing contrasting colors wisely I suggest you use a harmony site such as easyrgb. That will help you a lot in choosing your color schemes. If you need any help feel free to ask. Hope that helps you out.
It honestly depends how fast you can take information in. I mean it's all good studying it 3 hours a day, but if your not understanding it then it could take a long time to learn. But I have to stress to you to start coding to XHTML strict standards, start now when your learning, then you'll be used to it anyway, so will keep coding like that. Obviously the first stop for learning would be W3Schools, best tutorials for beginners are found there, after that you can find loads on the internet, or buy a book. Again, it depends on your preferences if you want to have a book rather than just online reading. As to what program to use, Notepad will do. Notepad2 (or Notepad++ as it's sometimes referred to) is free and much better for HTML (quick search on google will find the download). If you do use Dreamweaver then I would advise using the coding side of it, not the WYSIWIG side. There are benefits to Dreamweaver's coding side such as autocompletion of codes (can make the coding time cut in half if your used to it and know what your doing), but if you want to stay free then i'd go with Notepad2 for now.
No i think you heard wrong, that is the best way to make a website and easiest too because you plan how to do your website. I am not saying to use the image editor of adobe, not that way. If you know well photoshop and the technique to convert it you could make scriptless website within 3 or 4 days.
It takes a little while to grasp understanding of it. It's not just the amount of time but how interesting you find it. When I was 12-13, I learned CSS and HTML, not because I had a high IQ(which I don't think I have LOL) but because I was so fascinated in the way it all worked. If you spend 3 hours a day, that should give you some firm understanding in a few weeks. You'll never stop learning, wait till you get into XHTML(just another thing to confuse you), its surprising how complicated such a simple markup language gets to be. But for now just learn HTML and CSS good luck
