Here's another link for you Dukeofism, they mentioned the tutorials where for beginner, intermediate or advanced user. Have fun! http://www.noupe.com/gimp/30-exceptional-gimp-tutorials-and-resources.html
Gimp is freeware. I believe it is slightly less featured than Photoshop but for freeware it is great.
I use it for my web design and photo editing needs for more than a year already. The feature set is amazing and it is absolutely for free. I enjoy it a lot!
Boy. I've only been here awhile and I'm learning a lot! I have Gimp, but have never gotten very good at using it. So this caught my eye. I suspected most would say PS is better, but I'm really thankful for the gimptalk.com suggestion. I've watched people do things in PS, but not been able to duplicate it in Gimp. Maybe I'll learn how now. I will also check out Adobe Elements mentioned in another post here. Thanks. I will be back here soon.
GIMP is very similar to photoshop and if you know photoshop basics then you will surely know GIMP. The interface is very similar and features just differ by some margin..
Ways to Learn Gimp I think there are more than a few approaches to use, if you are trying to learn Gimp. Here are some: *Following written tutorials (with lots of screenshots) *Reading and posting to forums *Reading a book or guide *Gimp course (are there any?) *learn from someone who is more (but not too) experienced *Step by step video tutorials All of these "methods" work, but several are better than others.
I just want to let others know about a newly launched Gimp forum over at GimpForums.com. The main goal of GimpForums.com is to be a friendly place where to expand our knowledge of GIMP by helping each other. So GF definitely is helpful in learning GIMP.
There are lots of GIMP tutorial videos on YouTube and you can read GIMP books on Google Book Search (most of them anyway).
