I've decided with all my online projects its (sigh) a necessity. Where should I start? I know the basics of HTML, nothing more. I know my way around a cPanel, etc, can handle my own. Is W3 still the best, books at my library, what?

PS - how long did it take you guys to become "literate" in code?

Try learning PHP and SQL. You can search for tutorials and read books about them.

Wouldn't it be better to follow some sort of hierachy IE HTML advanced first, then CSS, PHP, etc etc?

Are XHTML and CSS necessary to move on to PHP? One is, one isn't?
