So it seems like to be successful in this industry one of the most important things is to learn new things. I propose this thread be a thread where EVERYONE who posts in it offers some little piece of advice you've learned that you think others might appreciate. Please do not post here if you aren't going to offer some advice, even if it's an extremly simple one liner. Some things I've learned lately, I'm a newb though so all I know are newb lessons but hopefully someone likes them... 1) Do NOT try to manipulate the system (meaning affiliates, SEO, anything) unless you're already well versed in the basics. I had a site with multiple pages on the first page in Google for various results. Then I remembered I forgot to put H1 tags on the page header as well as a general header. Instead of removing the H1 tags on the general header I just added an additional H1 header to the page header. About 3 days later all my pages were nowhere to be found in Google. I removed the additional H1 tag and about a week later they came back but not ranked as highly anymore. 2) The cost of AdWords is dependent on your page "Quality Score" in relation to the keyword you're targetting. This means a page on bath products going after keyword music will cost a lot more than going after soap for example. 3) Don't forget when you look up popular/high paying keywords in AdSense that your page must be about those to really get those results. I looked up a high paying topic and started making a page about it but soon I was branching into "sub topics" and forgot that I didn't check those keywords, they paid much worse. 4) Don't be too dependent on one revenue source. If you're not making things work with pay per click ads, try affiliate stuff, sell advertising directly, etc, etc. However, you should also stay focused. If you jump around too much you'll never get good at anything. It's a balance. 5) Do NOT get into a habit of checking your webpage stats/adsense stats/affiliate stats over and over. Go build content, work on SEO, something productive. 6) Quality content with basic SEO and some link building work goes a long way compared to crappy content with great SEO and great link building. I can write a great content page now, do meta tags, title, headers, some bold text, build 20-30 links and it will be on the first page within a day in Google. 7) When applying for affiliate networks be professional. This means having an E-mail that is @yourdomain.com, a decent webpage to submit, answer your phone "This is Name with Company, how can I help you?" or whatever, expect the following questions. Q: How do you plan to get traffic? A: I plan to buy it through advertising. Q: Have you worked with an affiliate network before? A: Yes, I've worked with XYZ and ABC but I'd like more offers. Q: What kind of offers are you interested in? A: I have a variety of traffic sources so I'm interested in all kinds of offers. You MUST show that you have experience and are professional, this is what they care about. 8) There is no get rich quick scheme. Just as in all of life if it's too good to be true it probably is. No one is selling a $50 eBook on how to make $500 a day or it would cost a lot more! There are ways to make money quick and easily but it takes a LOT of hard work to get to the point you'll understand how to do it correctly. 9) When you're looking for something to do, ask yourself if there's already something you know would help your sites/profits but you're simply putting it off in favor of reading forums or looking for the "get rich quick" method. If so, go do that thing instead. 10) Help others out sometimes. It doesn't always have to be about how much money you're going to make. In the long term friends can be more valuable than some cash. Anyway, share some things you've learned... specific hints on SEO, general lessons on making money online, anything you'd like to share. Please though if you're going to post write one sentence with some helpful advice.
I think, Domain age matters for the search engine ranking, old domain comparatively come quick than new. Do not use links farms. Do not deceive to others
