Okay, it is no surprise that many people listen to what guru's say and funny thing there is a few things that go around and people actually believe it. 1. The age of the domain has no relevance on Page rank. So many people believe that of course and I may have entertained that thought at one point but I knew it wasn't true when one of my newer sites with unique content got a better pagerank than my older one. 2. If you have a software product available in multiple software product directory websites, will it affect anything? Answer is no. There are tons of relevant information he talks about and it is worth your while to watch these videos and hear what he says. He will debunct some myths that circulate the internet, which unfortunately guru's are famous for spreading. His name on Youtube: Matt Cutts. Here is his channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/GoogleWebmasterHelp There are 125 videos uploaded and where he talks about things like 'Is over-optimization bad for a website?', 'Why do big brands rank so well,' and 'Whitehat linkbait' ... so get watching. I liked the Whitehat linkbait video to be fair. Have a look: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2QIxTI59r5o If you have any favorites why not list them here in this thread. Even if a thread has been done before on Matt Cutts... it's good to keep it fresh for people so they know there is someone that works for Google and that is knowledgable about their practices.
Great tips indeed and I especially liked the idea of domain age and the PR, although the older domains can have better rankings in many cases, but this has nothing to do with their PR.
Age and pagerank can be relevent. A domain that is aged may well have a large inbound link count even if it is dormant. A new domain will start at 0 It can take a long time for page rank to be acquired although of course it can sometimes seemingly accrue faster. The bottom line is that I would rather start with a domain that has age and history rather than a new one, this is especially true also in hard markets such as finance etc.
This is true, but it's not impossible to beat an aged page with a good amount of quality and relevant back links. I've done it before so i know it's possible There are a lot of things that determine pagerank, one of them being the type of linking you use on your webpage. If you use "nofollow" than you will have higher PR on google. Google sees this as a less spammy way to link.
I rather like the video of the "German clone" of Matt Cutts http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QR1r2x8rcio and the don't build links too fast As for old domains, they sometimes do rank higher, but it is usually because they have had much longer to gain back links, and those back links have been in place for longer IMHO.
I have seen all his Videos, they are outdated and most of his answers are not precise. He did these videos 1-2 years ago. Although some are very good.
