Hello, Are you sure ColdFusion is really what you need? I mean it's rather expensive and not... really widespread. I think for newbies PHP would be better.
There are 2 free opensource CFML engine. Coldfusion is very widespread especially in the enterprise market and its user base is growing especially with the new up comming release of CF9. The 2 open source engines are also attracting new developers. Even so Coldfusion standard is about $1000 thats about 10 hours worth of pay for a decent developer and the time you will save per project is far far more then that so it pays for itself in about 1-2 weeks.
Ben Forta's ColdFusion Web Application Construction book is great. It has everything you need to learn it.
Agree, Ben Book is awesome for learning CF... Make sure you pick up CF8 copy. And download the dev cf8 from adobe and install it on your home dev box.

ColdFusion = Awesomness I really love using coldfusion I use it everyday just about. Most of my work is done with coldfusion. A lot of people don't like it because it cost a lot, but in reality you can find CF hosting for as cheap as regular hosting. It speeds up work process and has a lot of nifty features.
