Question for directory owners - what do you do about lazy submitters who do not adhere to your submission rules? Let's say if your write that description must be at least xxx character long. What would you do about shorter submissions? Or if they "forget" to add capital letter at the beginning of the sentence/period at the end. Etc etc Should I be less demanding? I get it, my directory is brand new, you don't feel the need to write longer description if you only have 200-character long text you add to every directory. But if I state your description should be at least 250 ch. and you only add 100 then it just pisses me off! LOL Or spammers who add 20 websites in one go
All sites submitted should be reviewed manually. Description not to be too long, but it should be short, concise and accurate.
Why? The shorter description you've got, the more your directory looks like empty linkfarm (especially since 90% of websites are pure MFA spam). I wish people written at least 500-1000 ch (but with requirement like that I wouldn't have any submissions at all LOL )
Add validation code in your script so the submit fails if description is shorter than certain number of characters. For the capital letter issue, you can also adjust your script to change the first letter after period to be capital automatically A lot of programmers go on this forum. Post the programming related question here: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/forumdisplay.php?f=17 Will probably save you some headaches Cheers, Felix
First off I review each and every submission, even on my free directory. If it looks like a worthwhile resource I will edit titles and descriptions and add --else-- it gets dumped. I accept somewhere around 7-8 percent of submissions--over 7,000 active listings. My paid directory gets far more attention. There are 2 description fields. The basic is limited to 200 characters and must be written in 3rd person (meaning I edit nearly every one). The detail page description is more open for describing clients goods, services or general information up to 750 characters. If it is worth doing then it should be done right. I have yet to see a website which can't be introduced in 1 or 2 sentences. Anything over that becomes spam or advertising BS.
At JoeAnt.com all editor submissions are checked by higher level editors. When a submission isn't according our guidelines it is send back as a many times as needed, until the submitter has changed everything according the guidelines. BTW the descriptions aren't the biggest problem. The topic is. More then 50%, of the first time editors, submit their sites in one of the main topics. And ofcourse with the highest rating ;-) Hugo
