Layout for a personal IT related website

    Hello,

I've been toying with an idea lately. I wanted to start a website which would be a hybrid between a personal site/portfolio and a general IT topics site - a news/blog kind of thing in the general spirit of Web 2.0

Here's the design that I came up with:
    http://www.kocisz.com/

    Any thoughts?
    Thanks in advance!

Wow that's a scary design for an IT site. A personal portfolio site should be something that reflects your personality in a way that clients are attracted towards your work, more so as they like it.

I'd advice giving a better framework on what you're concentrating on, your services, et al.Your about us column is rather dull and concentrates on the term IT more than speaking "about" you. IT is a broad term, I'd speak about myselves, my work and my services, if I were you.

Designwise, I'd advice using lighter colours on a lighter background. Tall Buildings and Computers coupled with a man's face and on a Dark Background, together give out the impression of a BlackHat Hacking website.. lol

Don't Constrain the design, get some sidebars, put up the navigation on the sidebar or set it up to be horizontal just below the banner. Remove the man's face and give in a Definite Logo, make use of more colors and then get Web 2.0. Hope you get it ;)

    Cheers

The definition of IT is just a text I pasted from wikipedia to see how the website would look with the content. So far it is just a rough draft of the layout.

Now that you mentioned it, it is rather gloomy, isn't it?

And the face... I just wanted my face up there :)

Yep Gloomy was the word I was looking for, I was just looking at your portfolio, and am more than sure you could do better work :)

Try experimenting a bit with using "Gloss" effect on Photoshop. Get a logo done and it should look good!

Regarding the content, well I didn't know it was temporary. Nevertheless, good effort. But can be done better!

You mean do a better site than this or do better sites than the ones in the portfolio? :)
As for the gloss... I don't know why but I don't really like it all that much... Anyhow thanks for your thoughts!

wow, really a great design. Maybe a little bit too "special" or "flashy" for a business site, but surely perfect for a personal site. Really like it.

For me it looked just like one of those MS office Templates..:p
Try to put some bright colours with dark one's.
Meaning bright bg with some dark headers.

Bright bg... you mean the main background or the content area's background? Or maybe both?

I want to keep the dark-gold color scheme but I added a background to brighten the site a little bit. Not sure if I'm happy with the result though.

I thought this was a website about nuclear fallout when I first loaded it, it's very dramatic and all the buildings look on fire or something hehe. Technically it passes validation well and no tables, good work! I'd definately do something with the overall look and feel of the site though, it doesn't communicate IT to me, it communicates the end of the world or something ;)
