Launching website w/ valuable information & need some traffic/marketing advice

Note: I have a website that I spent a lot of time on and I want to
get it running. The content is currently hosted to
a free hosting site. I am registering the domain name currently and getting
some good hosting as well in the next day or so.

The information I'm providing to this website is very valuable and
has made me a lot of money. I am now turning around and selling this information to others so they can become successful as well.

I need some helpful tips here on general marketing for my web site.

The target audience I am aiming for is: Money Making
    Ages: 15-40
    Both males and females.

I was told I need to purchase traffic to make sales. The current company I'm
looking at is http://www.bigdogwebtraffic.com which sells 100,000 unique
visitors that are targeted towards the money making category.
    The price is around $273.00

    Is this a good buy?

Also...The valuable information I'm selling on my website
    is in the $40-$50 range.

out of those 100,000 targeted money making individuals coming to my site,
what do you think the conversion rate would equate to those who purchase content from my website as opposed to those who don't?

maybe every 1 out of 100?

I'm sure there are many factors that come into play here but I'm just looking for a ball park figure here.

I would appreciate any help or advice from you guys and gals.

    Thank you.

I would stay clear of companies that sell traffic like this and stick with reputable companies like google (adwords), Yahoo Search Marketing and MSN. If this is packaged in an ebook you could also sell through clickbank and take advantage of their affiliate network.

Just make sure you test your landing page and sales copy before spending to much money on buying traffic. once you know your website converts...then that's when you should start with the heavy ad buys.

don't bother with those sort of sites - i couldn't imagine them being legit at all...

if your content is good and worth reading, you shouldn't have a problem.

    - make guest posts on blogs
    - submit to directories, and aggregators
    - submit to tons of social sites and networks
    - learn SEO tactics
    - make guest forum posts
    etc...

takes time but you'll build traffic quickly if your content is quality. make sure you site has an RSS feed.

I will have a blog. I will be selling 6 different e-books. I will also have forums and
a guest book talking about the related content.

I'm well off already with the money I made but I figured I would make a few extra bucks selling
the exact information I used to make the money I made myself.

I figure people would want a more personal/personalized website on how to do this.

I just need to figure out how to market it properly and get the buyers to convert.

does anyone have a prediction or ball park figure on what the conversion rate would be on my money making website selling $40-$50 ebooks if I order 100,000 unique visitors of targeted money making traffic?

1 out of 100? 1 out of 1000? how much money would I be looking to make per month?

you can't estimate that...100,000 unique visitors who have no interest at all about your ebook will convert at a nice 0% rate. 100,000 uniques clicking on an ad for 'learn how to make money ebook' ad will convert pretty nicely probably. see the difference?

don't waste your money on (fake) traffic

i've never used those traffic services before but my guess is that they work so well because of people like you who try to do the math for situations like that...

maybe spend on money on PPC or banner advertising...or take the time to build up some traffic and SEO

The only way to tell, is to get some traffic.
Traffic sources from one place could have a 0% close rate, while others could have a 4% or even 8%.

I would recomend starting with a PPC campaign. if you do a search on the forums, you can find a $200 working (as of last week at least) yahoo advertising coupon.

You have to make a min deposit of $30, but that gets you $230 in advertising. Would be good to get you started, and seeing how your site converts for highly targeted traffic.

Average conversion rates are around 2% on the internet. But you need to know where the visitors are coming from.

You'd steer clear of anybody selling you traffic. Its all very well getting the traffic, its the quality of traffic that counts (ie people who are interested in hwat you have to offer and want to pay for it).

well this traffic is supposedly targeted specifically for the audience I am trying to sell to so maybe the conversions might be better. Now when you are selling something like e-books. Is it wise to put the purchase buttons right on the main first page of the website for easy purchasing by the buyers or can it be just as good to have buyers click a link on the first page of the website which takes buyers to another page to purchase them>?

That's it man - also, I have a secret technique that I will share with you on how to get traffic to a new site:

SEARCH THE FORUM before posting a thread asking how to market a site!

To be a successful webmaster who can use his site to pay his bills, and then some, you have to buy traffic, advertise. SEO, blogging, article marketing, submiting to social networks, signatures...is second-rate methods that only noobs use, which is why they have dead to very slow sites, along with a high bounce rate.

And even with SEO it is not certain that you will even land high. Just because you optimize your site does not mean you will land high. It just doesn't work that way.

But you may want to think about not going with bigdogwebtraffic. That webmaster gets only around 100 or so daily hits.

It's funny, because in his site he says: "We send high quality visitors who actually see your website."

But he can't do it for his own site?

    Think about it!

That's the first thing I noticed that this guy is full of shit.

There has to be enough money for both him, or any advertising network, and the other webmasters who will be carrying your ad in their sites.

Let's say, for example, you pay four cents a click. 2 cents goes to each of them.

    What's 100,000 times 4 cents?

Yup, THAT is what it really cost out there for both of them to see a profit.

    Make sense?

In fact, out there in the real world, it cost much much more than that.

We're talking at least $10,000 for advertising to bring in that many people. On top of that, it can take at least 6 months, if not longer.

The sites you see out there that have hundreds of thousands of monthly visitors, it took them over a year to do this.

On average, conversion rate is 1 out of every 100 to 200 visitors. Even if you do 1 out of 200, that is still good.

Of course, as you may already know, it all depends on the look of your site, your sales pitch, and the price.

One thing to keep in mind, though, if you don't know this already...the longer your sales page is, the harder it is to make a sale. It is because many do not want to read all of that, and they will just close out of the site.

You should also give free tips, samples from your e-books. This too will help make more sales for you.

I give about a dozen or so free tips.

You also may want to consider putting the ordering form right there on the sales page. Why have them click on a link to go to another page, when you can put it right there in front of them, right then and there?

I put mine right down on the bottom, after I have given my sales pitch and free tips.

I never understood why so many webmasters put their ordering form on a seperate page. Maybe they just don't know how to think outside the box.

Anyone else find this thread mildly amusing?

OP claims he wants to share his "methods" with people in an eBook on the money he's earned. Meanwhile, asking where you can find reputable targeted traffic from.

    La la la.

^ROCKSTAR^ you may want to try the following. They have good traffic themselves (in the millions), and they have a phone number you can call. I have also heard from other advertisers, experienced webmasters who also have very large sites, that these are the most popular.

But be careful. Make sure your ads and your site are nice by asking others for critique before advertising.

Many say that buying traffic doesn't work. Well, it's mainly because their ads and or their site are nothing but shit.

I can't personally tell you about them because I advertise, buy traffic myself. Why do something that you can do yourself?

    Perhaps down the road, though.

TextLinkAds, TrafficSwarm, CasaleMedia.com, FastClick, BurstMedia, TribalFusion, Azoogle, GlobalInteractive, AdBrite, Adengage, RealMedia, Kontera, Avnads, ValueClick, RealTechNetwork, Reduxmedia, and, Dotomi.

I find it amusing that you don't realize that there are other ways to make money in this world besides online. I made my money in the music industry and then turned around to investing and have been hugely successful. I now want to diversify and try to make a little more money online sharing my real world experiences in money making and educate others in those industries I was successful at. The web biz is an industry I haven't tapped into yet and I'm trying to learn more about it.

Thank you for your resourceful post, idiot.
