Hello Friends, Today 08-08-08 I am launching a Social Networking Website www.MarkUpon.com . I am using PLIGG & from past week I have set it up with a new design and setting up categories & also some functions This thread also announces the Launch of Mark Upon & I also ask all for Marketing Ways to promote this website, and make it a huge Success, Currently No Marketing is planned or being done to it. Currently it is not monetized, but in near future I will monetize so suggestions for it also welcome. Any Critics about the website also most welcome. Regards Abhishek
Not a critic, but I would add a general/misc category. It will help your submitters more appropriately choose a suitable category. I will add your site to my social bookmarking list as well. You are using 301 redirects, so that is still helpful to submitters.
Start adding some stories yourself. In this way some of the bloggers will see the trackback and in time you might have some new ones. It's empty now, I assume not too many people would join in this moment. Try having more accounts and submit good articles
Great design. Just put it in your signature on as many popular forums as you can. Use big-boards to find the big ones.
Thanks. Yeah will market it aggressively... to make some bucks.. Thanks & sure will keep u updated.. Thanks for adding my site to ur list & What 301 Redirects ?? I am unaware of it ?? Thanks & your point noted and the work is ON..! Thanks a lot & yes design is nice.. Tour point too noted.. and Big-Boards is a nice forum finder. Thanks for that too. Thanks stories will be submitted in my site .. what will i submit in my competitors site now ? The website is Loading properly now.. probably there was a server maintainence(restart) so u had that error.. U can check it now! the link goes here>> http://www.MarkUpon.com/
Hey Abhishek, Just ask and it will be given. Keep up the blogging asking for members to join Etc. Bookmarked you, Don't forget to contribute to DP in the future. Good Pluck
Why don't you earn while you manage your website now? And you should make a section where guest can post
Make something special from others. Try to get some PR and huge traffic. Do marketing and you will get clicked.
The outbound links to the bookmarked sites are using your URL. Some large bookmarking sites, like Propeller, are using 302 status codes on the outbound links. By using a 301 status code, your site is telling the search engines that the outbound link has permanently changed to the destination site. Unless one uses a 301 redirect, or a direct link, then there is little SEO value to the link. So you are ok. Let's look at the single published article you have titled "Watch Beijing Olympics Live Online!" The outbound link for that is http://www.markupon.com/out.php?title=watch-beijing-olympics-live-online. When a search engine spiders that link, it will see the redirect status code below and assign the SEO value to the destination page. HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently Date: Sat, 09 Aug 2008 04:48:40 GMT Server: Apache/2.2.8 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.8 OpenSSL/0.9.7a mod_auth_passthrough/2.1 mod_bwlimited/1.4 FrontPage/5.0.2.2635 X-Powered-By: PHP/5.2.5 Location: http://www.crapcenter.com/watch-beijing-olympics-live-online/ Connection: close Content-Type: text/html Code (markup): What you are using is common on social bookmarking sites that use a Pligg core. For a full explanation of a 301 redirect, see this link.
These kind of websites are everywhere now and getting one going is not easy. Create yourself multiple accounts at least 20-30 Post using all accounts from various sources Use your accounts to vote on the stories This will give your visitors the impression the site is active and has members. Also get yourself a Plugin made for Wordpress and Blogger blogs these will help (pm me if you want the plugins making)
I would say I like the site.. but I saw the same site/design pop up 2 weeks ago. Best of luck though.
Well if I were you I'd have a written plan before hand which basically covers the following things: 1. The goals of the project - What I want to do with it. 2. What it will take to achieve those goals - How will I do it. 3. I write down all the features in detail, and how I can make it unique from others, as-well as how exactly will I go about marketing it. I gather all this information before I launch the project / site. So my point is that you should avoid pushing your boat into the ocean without doing your research first. I'm not trying to discourage you but if we come down to the bare facts then the simple truth is getting a script, chopping it up a little and then hoping for success just for the sake of it is not really going to get you or anyone else anywhere. The one who does succeed is the one who lays down a solid plan and then acts upon it, achieving one goal after another. Also as a side note as someone said above, you could work on the logo and brand it more. Make it memorable and unique. Don't be afraid of colors, love them. I hope that helps and good luck!
