Launching a site...

    Hi,

Just launched a site. Had a few visitors, a few sign-ups, no more bugs.
Now it's time for a press release.
I've written press releases before but never for website launches. Is there anything specific (besides the URL) that I should include in a website launch press release?
Are there specific websites where I should send my press release to?

I would send the PR to PRweb.com (paid), PRLeap.com (free), PR.com (free), and AP.org (free) for starters. Make sure the PR is NEWSWORTHY. Id type it up and post it here and ask for some suggestions. Im sure Jenn will be around this thread soon enough - she knows her stuff.

prweb.com is a must for me... The rest it doesn't really matter... Even those free ones.. Soon it will get picked up by Google.

I need to do this for my Cingular Forums

I've done very little promotion so far and none of the traditional methods seem very cost effective.

You get picked up by google without paying for PRweb, iworkforthem.

And wilco, drig is right... it has to be newsworthy. Why should the media care about your site launch? What's special about it? Is it tied to anything going on in the news right now? Is there something entirely unique in the industry? Just sending a release to say "Hello world, I launched a new website" isn't enough. You need to make sure you have a solid angle first. Think of it from the journalist's perspective, and write something that you'd actually want to read and cover. :)

There was a good forum post on this site that covered this topic a few days ago. Only thing is I cant find it. But it was really good post it listed all the sites you can submit your site to for PR. Hopefully someone here know which post I am talking about and can post the url for you. But I will have a second look. Good Luck with your site launch
