Launching a site, the first boost of traffic

Hey everyone. I used to be in this game quite hardcore. I had a site and managed to get about 1000 uniques per day, for several months, back in 2001.

Since then everythings changed, and I am willing to learn. I am pretty in tune with all that's going on, but wanted to some direction in how to launch my site into a stream of regular traffic.

Even if it's building up again, what is the best way? The site is:

    www.cinematrailers.net

    So far, I have:

-Used software to SEO the page to high levels, specifically for Google
-Attempted to do some link exchanges to get some respectable backlinks

Other than the usual search engine and directory submissions - what is there that can be done?

    Like the design.
    Try these:
    - advertise on classified ads sites. e.g. webcosmo.com etc
    - social networking sites like digg.com
    - soical bookmarking
    - forum signatures, avatars
    - article marketing
Good luck to your new venture.

A good initial boost is forums. Find a few high traffic forums about movies then post a topic about how cool the latest trailer for a new release is and include the link to the trailer on your site. If you do that aggressively, you will likely get banned, but not after hundreds of hits. If you want to make that practice sustainable, you have to post some general stuff on a few other forums before posting the link to your site so it isn't obvious spam.

I would consider a press release and have it submitted to several outlets. If a decent sized media outlet picks it up, then you'll definitely see some excellent return on the investment.

Several folks on DP offer PR writing and submission services, and be prepared to spend, as you truly get what you pay for when it comes to that. Well worth it though.

    Good luck!

Press release is quite expensive. Plus in most cases news media never use it as news resource. If they do, it really shows the magic.

Social Networking Sites are the best for beginner boost. Especially stumbleupon.

You don't have any content so you won't get much traffic. Also you should try to build natural links to the site rather than link exchanges.
