Hey, am going to be lunching a site in about a month. Its a very large site, consisting of about 250,000 pages, give or take 10,000. Is it a bad thing to launch such a large site and submit it to google? Would i be better off starting it small, and expanding it over time? Thanks Matthew PS, sry for the noob question, im terriable at seo, so dont really know if it would make any difference at all. EDIT(a little more info): to give you a better idea of what the site is, its a database site, so the content isnt 100% unique, but there are only 3 major authorities on this site out there, so i hope to be the fourth(there are actually a few dozen similar sites, but only 3 are commonly used), and on the topic in general a google search results in about 21,000,000 pages. I probably should have mentioned that its a database site in the first place, and users will be looking for a wide range of info. It is possible to add different parts at a time, but the users of the site would feel its much more practical to have it all at once. thanks again.
I think it's a good idea to start small. It can be overwhelming to the visitors if you have so much stuff. Start small and update often.
If you start your site with 250k pages it may raise a few flags. Google is looking for content that is of value to users and for a brand new site to launch with that many pages it would suggest some kind of automated process that the algo could flag.
thanks for the replies guys. to give you a better idea of what the site is, its a database site, so the content isnt 100% unique, but there are only 3 major authorities on this site out there, so i hope to be the fourth(there are actually a few dozen similar sites, but only 3 are commonly used), and on the topic in general a google search results in about 21,000,000 pages. I disagree..... I always like in a site when it's too big. Plus you have more of a chance someone will click because he will see alot of ads.. and sooner or later he will see an ad he likes...
Bigger is better. Just release the whole site, I would more likely stay at a site with a lot of content than a site with a little.
in my opinion , if you start with 250k pages , google will give you a red cart . start with quantity and add slowly . this way will safer
