I launched a website today about grunge music and I got 17 unique visitors and there wasnt any actual content until I made my first post a couple minutes ago. I plan on writing 3-5 posts a day to get people interested. I hardly know anything about making websites. I still cant figure out how to change my theme because my ftp client doesnt work... Anyways, what should I focus on now, making articles or getting into search engines as well? I still dont know how I got 17 uniques my first day with no content.
well if you put a link to the site, you will get search engines crawling it. But you should just keep writing articles, as that will be your best way of getting search engine recognition
Before you commit to making 3-5 posts per day, take a second and think if you are going to be able to keep this pace up in the long haul. Will you still be motivated to write 5 posts a day a year from now? Will you have enough to write about? Consider starting with one to two posts per day, and seeing if you can keep up that pace for a month. If so, then you can start adding more posts each day. You just don't want to set an impossible standard and then burn yourself out
Tyler has a good point. I go by my rule of 10. I try to add 10 new articles or pages, and 10 updates to the site every month. I have been able to do that for almost a year now with my road rage site. With my new site, content is created by the visitors, but I will still try to add 10 upgrades to the site. Always nice to step away from a site, and get new perspectives.
Thanks for your thoughts guy. I just figured out what was wrong with my ftp tool so I can update it to suit more of a grunge theme. The blue and white isnt cutting it. Im gonna work on some SEO techniques tomorrow as well. How long should it typically take to get into google?
PM me the url and il exchange links with you if you want and see if i can help in any way. I run a few high traffic music sites, mainly cd sales and production equipment but it'l definately boost ya site. Cheers Steve
Actually, with blogspot domains, people get indexed in 6 hours, I've read. Otherwise, you can get indexed faster, if you get a link from someone. This will also help improve rankings more than having to manually submit. The trick is to find someone who's about to get crawled (based on checking the last couple of times they were crawled, you can approximate) and be linked from them just before. Best to get a few of these links too. On a related note, I've understood that adding your RSS feed to a yahoo account helps get you spidered by Y. I'm not sure how MSN goes about things. Finally, make sure you have a clear hierarchy of links, and regular html navigation so the spiders can crawl the whole site. Good luck! p.s. well hope you have good luck with your site, and many people get listed on SE quick. but then a week later disappear and enter the sandbox..well thats what happened to me
Thanks guys. Ive already made a ton of changes to my site today. I should be done with all the basic stuff soon. Im gonna write a bunch of pages today and Ill post my URL in this thread when I feel its presentable so you can give me tips.
Try to include your visitors. If you could make them interested to write some content you could get more content and more visitors And ofcourse links, links and links on other sites. Best regards, Ivan
