One of the tricks (but not really a trick) I always use when conducting on-page optimization is to prepare the pages so that they drive the crawlers around and on to the deepest pages on the website. I also ensure that the discovery of the crawlers is clear and easy by using putting on description and relevant anchor texts on each of the deep links.
