I've just been to MS Updates and downloaded the latest high priority updates for XP. I also installed IE7 (not that I will ever use it). But something weird has happened. Neither IE7 or FF will connect to the web. Also, I have canot acccess some Pop3 mailboxes via Outlook. But, if I turn off the Zone Alarm security suite, access is restored. The permissions for IE and FF in ZA have remained unchanged. But yet, when ZA is active, net access is not possible. This is strange - havent seen anything like this at all. Could this be some sort of conflict between one of the latest updates and ZA? Anyone else had any problems with the latest updates from MS for XP?
This is firewall related - I have left ZA running but turned off the firewall only and access has been restored. Hmmm... I wonder what these updates have done to the ZA firewall? EDIT: Update - Having the Internet Zone security slider at medium and not high permits access. But having it set set at High results in no access.
For info, the slider has always been set at High and has never resulted in knackering net access. Strange that this has happened at the same time as the updates from MS.
ZA users should look here: http://forum.zonelabs.org/zonelabs/board?board.id=access It appears that one update is slightly wonky...
This is a hot issue at the moment... http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=kb951748&sourceid=navclient-ff&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1B3GGGL_enGB276GB276
For any ZA users who are currently unable to set the Internet Zone security slider back to HIGH, do the following: Go to Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel. Make sure there is a tick in the box to show the Updates (at the top of the window). Locate KB951748 and remove it. Reboot. ZA Internet Zone security can be set to High again. ZA are currently working on a proper fix for this.
In case anyone was wondering, ZA have offered a fix for ZA Security Suite users that allows internet security to be set to high with the patch from MS installed. Details can be found here: http://forum.zonelabs.org/zonelabs/board/message?board.id=access&thread.id=34074 A fix for those with the free edition of ZA will be made available shortly - details will be published on the ZA forum.
Yes, thanks. I actually ran into this problem with a friends PC today. I didn't have the time to deal with it so I just disabled ZA. Now I can fix it properly.
You shouldn't doub... tri.. qua.. You aren't supposed to do 7 consecutive posts, use the edit button. It's there for a reason. This is obviously a ZA conflict, just wait for an update. - RoxD
