Last Update Observations!!!!

Discussion in 'Yahoo' started by mostar, May 10, 2005.

I am starting this thread to discuss the last update and then the obvious tweaking that took place shortly after in hopes of trying to figure out Yahoo for hte next upcoming update. Here are my observations:

    1) Blog spamming not as effective although still good from past
    2) Skyscrapers being weeded out
    3) Sights listed in Directory, better chances of higher rankings (yes there are many exceptions)
    4) Anchor text important
    5) Keyword stuffing should be less than before (whatever that was??)
    6) Sitewide ICL's work but not like they do on G. In fact I believe there may be a penalty applied, please feel free to disagree with good evidence.
    7) PR not relevant at all!
Manual deleting... I know complaints have been made about some blackhat sites and they have been deleted from the Top 10 quickly (within a few days) especially where there are copyright issues.
    9) Subdomains being weeded out.
    10) Pages seem to be dropped if they are too similar to other pages... this may be a stretch???

Any thoughts, comments etc??? These are just my observations in the various industries I SEO in. I don't mind sharing b/c every update is different and always will be, why? B/c the only certainty is buying ads of course. FYI - When longhorn comes out, expect MSN results to bring bigger traffic. Microsoft knows what they are doing, just ask the fools who laughed at Gates for bringing in the Xbox.

Mostar, how sure are you of this one? Do you think this is something that Google will eventually do too?

The directory theory i am agreeing much with the rest is nothing new really and always was the same with sight shifts. Even the directory theory was way from the past.

So, it's now recommended to pay the $299 for the directory?

I was getting mixed feedback last time I asked -- and it actually tilted towards not being recommended.

Not too sure what you are referring to there...

Subdomains are featured in search results all the time.

The anti-sandbox effect we used to see on subdomains is not quite as prevelant as it used to be but I can assure you that some subdomains still perform exceptionaly well.

Yeah, I have to agree here too. Subdomains are legitimate in their own right, and I can clearly see networks that utilize literally tens of thousands of subdomains still as prominent as ever. It's possible though that subdomains are subject to additional filters where 2/3ld's aren't.. I'm just not seeing them yet :)

For example, refer result #1 on the following Yahoo search.. (then do a domain: search on the primary to see what I mean about the subdoms..)

    Cheers,

    JL

I've noticed several of those point you've talked about, there seems to be a general move towards a similar algorithim to Google over the last couple of months with more attention being paid to IBLs and anchor text.

Keyword stuffing still seems to be higher than what google likes. Similar pages still show well unless they are just cracking down now.
