Google's Distinguished Engineer Matt Cutts said that a website with a large number of pages won't automatically rank better than others. So adding more pages to your site won't help your home page automatically rank better than smaller sites. I have read the article and has lots of information on how the page has to be? Not really, Matt said your site can get more rank than huge sites.. So there no way that small site are getting the high rank.
Google is all about content, so pages with good content but lesser pages will rank better than other bigger pages
well i can say that this is a total lie massive sites definitely gets huge boost there are many massive sites which content is almost 70 80% thin or copied etc and ranking like a boss
This is true.. I just saw a site yesterday that was ranking within the top 3 spots and they had only 5 pages of content, including their about and contact pages! Very few pages yet their homepage had a bunch of content on it. It was a local business, so competition probably wasn't that big, but still.. 5 pages!
Thanks for sharing this excellent topic with us. what i got from this post is, you have to have a comprehensive link building approach within one website (interlinking of pages). only then google can recognize it,otherwise hundreds of webpages will not effect your home page ranking.
I am not agree that a small site will have a better chance, there are so many factors which are affecting rank of your websites ,whether its small or large, depends on link structure, content structure and more and more information you are giving that's really good so for rank does not matter for websites its small or large
I absolutely agree! Having too many pages to rank better is waste of time and money. Invest your time and money in adding value to your content and information.
Website owners need to understand the quality of the content is one of the aspect which will help you in ranking for desired keywords and phrases!
In my experience which I admit isn't a lot you need BOTH valuable content and many pages. I don't care what your topic or niche is there is no way you are fitting a good amount of "valuable content" on 5 pages. My business' website appears at first glance to be only 6 or 7 pages but I acually have about 95ish pages and growing. I write alot of unique content about the same stuff. Example I write 1 page about "food trucks in new york " another about 'food trucks in Brooklyn" . Now most people know that Brooklyn is inside of new york but that doesn't matter. If I kept the above example going I could write over 70 pages about "food trucks in new york"
Yes matt is right now a days quantity does not matter the only thing matters a lot is quality and if you have only 1 page on your website and it is full of quality unique content than surely you can beat large websites and get the first position of google search results.
I think the proper On-Page and Off-Page SEO and of course unique content are the FACTORS that are important for your SERP...
