Large scale sitemap generator

    Can anyone point me in the direction of a free online sitemap generator that will index more than 500 pages? Any help in pointing me in the right direction or to another post that has already answered this is much appreciated,

    Any particular reason it has to be online? You will stand a better chance finding a desktop standalone sitemap generator (whether free or paid software) if you want to handle large number of URLs (10,000, 100,000, million or whatever)

    Thanks for the quick replies folks. Reason I wanted an online one is most of the offline ones all seem to be for PC's but I only use an imac G5 for the web designing.

    Well, you have to keep in mind that generating a sitemap 10000+ URL will take several hours depending on various factors like the connection you have, the bandwidth of both your server and the sitemap generator server, and, in the case of a standalone software, or if you generated your sitemap into a browser, the amount of memory available. Generating sitemaps of several thousand of URL, might well crash your memory if the service you are using does not permit to divide it in smaller work unit. Anyway, google will allow sitemaps until 50000 URL. After this number, you will have to divide in several files.

    This is one task you will not want to do in notepad, it can be done, but would be very time consuming. There are many websites & freeware programs that can build an XML sitemap for you. I don’t recommend purchasing software to create XML sitemaps; many freeware programs do the exact same thing. Below is a few links to free XML sitemap generators & websites.
