Hello, I have a website which contains a lot of unique articles. In past all of the articles were indexed, but large amounts of them have been removed (exact search of the sentences used to return results but won't now). Site is not banned and has a PR2 ranking (used to be 3-4). - Why the articles are removed from the index - Is there a chance to return them to the index? - Could paying and using adwords advertisement improve organic search results? thanks in advance.

You need to build back links and consistent content updates to your site to get maximum indexed pages. If possible, monitor pages that have not indexed then build some back links from jumptags, twitter, digg, stumbleupon, reddit, etc to get it indexed. You can get all your pages indexed in similar way. Google adwords does not help you in getting index or ranking. SEO will help you to get index and ranking.
