    Hey Folks,

I was just wondering can anyone give me some advice about a laptop?

I don't want any fancy smancy shit on it..Just a normal laptop that I can go online on and do work on etc.

I have NO idea about laptops, and which makes are good/bad etc. Or how much memory it should have on it, etc.

Also...My brother has one and it is shit...If I go on it - it overheats really quickly. So I want one that never overheats? Ha ha I know I ain't making any sense.

Does anyone recommend any laptops? Help.

    Spank you. :)

last year I bought a Dell Inspiron 1150 and it's fantastic.

I wanted a cheap, reliable laptop to work on, no fancy shit.

I upgraded the monitor to 15", 12 cell battery, wireless, etc. No extras, just some ram and HD space.

it cost about $1000 USD and the battery life is over 5 hours, I can't complain. I would definately suggest customising a DELL... there are also lots of coupon codes online to save some cash.

Avoid Pentiums, those heat up. Get a Centrino

What do you want it for? emailing and browsing? Excel calculations? Graphic design?

My Gateway 600X overheated constantly, including after I sent it back 3 times. Things inside were melting. The last time they put a huge heatsink in - so big that they had to take out one of the 5 screws that holds the keyboard in to make room for it.

Finally I got a USB-powered cooling pad that sits under it for about $30 from Cyberguys, and I haven't had a heat problem since.

dells work for me - never had a problem with them.

In fact I still have my inspiron 7500, which is used every day in our dispatch dept. It's +6 years old now. I had to replace a lid hinge last year, dell still had the parts in stock.

Get a desktop pc with a portable petrol generator... Works a treat when commuting to work on a train.

    I have a Dell Inspiron 1200

    Specs
    Celeron M 1.4ghz
    1.25GB Ram
    40 GB Harddrive
    Dell External Wireless Card
    14.1" Monitor

It serves its purpose. I use it more than my desktop now, like relaxing on the couch and making money with my site :D

Here's a perfect time to shamelessly plug my Dell coupon code site! If you are going to buy one anyways, might as well save a few bucks:)

    See sig...

Nobody seems to using toshiba here. I am using Toshiba Tecra Series, with 1 gig ram and 1.86 Centrino. Gives me good backup.

I visited loads of sites and forums while I was doing some research to buy a laptop. 99% of the time I saw great reviews about dell.

Got an Inspiron 700m and love it.

If you are looking for a laptop that has a good quality stick with either the IBM thinkpad or the a Dell. You can get a used or refurbished Thinkpad for cheap and they are tough.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned a Thinkpad yet. IBM thinkpads are regarded as being some of the best laptops available. I'm typing this post on a Thinkpad T22.

I would suggest Dell Inspiron 1150. It's the same thing I want to buy maybe next month. My sister has been using this for almost three months.
