Laptop's NIC screwing up - need help

    I connect to the Net through a DSL modem (connected to my laptop's ethernet card). Dynamic IP.

    Today i was just browsing and all of a sudden I got disconnected, for no apparent reason. Hasn't been able to reconnect till now. The ethernet status keeps saying "Acquiring network address..." and stays there.

    If I restart the thing, with the cable connected and the modem switched on, I get the "Limited or no connectivity". Repairs don't work.

    No system changes (other than the occasional Windows update) when this happened. Been working fine till today.

    EDIT: FOrgot to add, problem lies with my laptop or its card, not the modem or cable.
