Hey I was just wondering what are your experiences with laptops and overheating? I plan to use my laptop for 10h a day so what should I know about overheating?
Can laptop work 10h every day without a problem?

Personally I have an old laptop at home running as a small home-based server, and it's been running for over 60 days. Have not noticed any overheating issues, but this of course to have to do with the make/model of the laptop.

Is your laptop model known to overheat? You can get pads that the laptop can sit on which have fans running to cool the bottom of the laptop. Other than that, you might want to completely charge then completely empty the battery every few days otherwise your battery might go bad if you continually leave it plugged in.

My Toshiba was overheating and shutting down several times a day (mind you it is just over a year old). I read somewhere that it could be due to dust accumulation in your air vents and on your heat sinks. It seems to have worked for me.

Intel laptops have less heat, but I got an AMD anyway the fan keeps it kool, I use my laptop at least 10h a day, sometimes i leave it on overnight, never had any problems with it so far, sometimes one side of the laptop would be quite hot, but I'd always put like a boook under it to keep it levitated, overall overheating aint really an issue, with performance,

I just read few things about overheating. You have to put your laptop on a hard surface so that can fresh air come in and you shouldn't keep your laptop always charging because it produces more heath when it's charging.

What kind of average ambient temps do you experience? If it's 25C or under, I wouldn't worry too much. Just make sure your laptop fan/vents aren't full of dust, and don't rest it on a bed or on a doona/duvet/quilt/whatever.

We're in the middle of an Australian summer here, and the outside temperatures are hitting 40+C. I wouldn't dream of running any of my computers in that kind of environment. During summer, I only run my computers when I'm at home, watching over them, with the air con blasting. BUT.. I undervolt nearly all my case fans, and like to live on the edge :D blablabla

Well during the summer temperature hits 35-39 C here, I just hope that it will work fine with a cooling pad with two fans.
One thing about soft surfaces. You said that I shouldn't keep my laptop on it, so is it OK for me to put it at my laptop handbag when I'm not using it?

If it's turned OFF, then you can put it wherever you want. Including your handbag :)

Does anybody remember MBA[mac book air],it gets heated up 70 Celsius,
at a temperature that high you can barely touch it with naked palms, leave alone resting it on your lap.

I don't know, I've heard that those cooling pads don't help at all, in fact they consume 20% of your battery.
Still I would feel a lot safer with a cooling pad.

As long as you keep your vents clean you should have no problems at all. Laptops that have vents on the bottom should not be used on deep carpet though, because the carpet can literally suffocate it.

If the manufacturers didn't go cheap on ventilation and heatsinks, you should be fine running it 8-10 hours a day, or even round the clock in moderate temps/low humidity, no problem.
