I am new at seo. I had someone set up a ppc account for me that use. Here is the problem, The landing pages that I use for ppc , I thought I would use to get backlinks to. Those landing pages are dynamic where they all have the same content on it except for the heading which matches the keywords used for ppc. Today someone in the office told me not to use them because they link to the site , but if you go to the homepage of our site you cant find those pages because they are only for ppc. Will using those pages still help with ranking on organic, or should I go back to all the links I got and ask them to direct them to my homepage instead of the landing page they are pointing to?
You cannot use Adwords in order to rank your site on organic search engine. Because Adwords never generates backlinks.
Yeah I know that. My issue is I used the landing pages that I use for adwords. They are landing pages that all have the same content, you cant get to them from my home page. What I did today though thinking I was doing seo to get up organically. I got some backlinks from relevent sites and figured I would point them at the landing page url because I figured if I used a certain keyword I would use the landing page that had that word in the heading. Somebody at the office said my technique wont work because 1. My pages that are used for landing pages have the same content and google will see it as duplicate content 2. You cant get to them from my homepage, since they were only supposed to be used for ppc landing pages. Should I just point any backlink I get to the homepage and others that you can get to from the home page?
You should point backlinks to your homepage as well as different pages on your website (internal pages - not landing pages). Create pages that target your keywords and link to them e.g. you can make a page that targets a couple keywords and then make a page that targets a couple different keywords. Constantly add fresh quality content to your site and get links for your new pages. I wouldn't link to the landing pages as they are supposed to constantly change (which will alter URLs) and improve as you learn what works. In addition, as you mentioned, the page is the same for all keywords and it's illogical to think that you can target tons of keywords with one page. You also aren't linking to your landing pages from pages on your site so they'll be more difficult for Search Engines to discover, index and rank. JMO but I would build links to my website and not my PPC landing pages... at least in your case.
Jaysonnhs, Thanks, you have confirmed what I was thinking. Glad to hear it from a pro though. Now I need to email all those people I got backlinks from today and have them change the url the text link is pointing to.
