Would building lots of hi pr links to a landing page push it up the rankings in google? Why is it that i never see landing pages when i search for something in google, its always blogs or sites or something. Is pointless to build links just to move your landing page up? Is it because everyone uses ppc if the have landing pages or squeeze pages?
There are landing pages that google likes and there are ones that google doesn't like. If you provide your legal link and/or privacy link at the footer and provide a contact, your quality score will be higher than those that get penalized. Quality is key so it pays to find out what google likes and doesn't if that's what you're going for. But to directly answer your question, yes, you can get your landing page to rank for your keywords. I have.
also i see that landing pages go higher in google if there is a lot of in site backlinks to it so on the landing page domain you should add a lot of unique content and link it to your landing page
Landing pages doesn't worth the work for building backlinks. Better you some other advertising besides backlinks. May be PPC, social bookmarking, forums or banner advertising.
It's any page a visitor is directed to. Ad (both off and online), link in a message board post, search engine link, word of mouth....
I think he's probably referring to a squeeze page for sales. I don't think Google wants the near the top of the search results - their not informative for the most part.
I have a few landing pages that Google has ranked nicely. It all depends on the content of the landing page and other factors. The problem is you see SO many of those auto-generated ones that are spammy.
I think it may be more efficient to focus on articles and such to generate traffic than pure SEO for a landing page; most squeeze pages simply won't have enough unique content to make it worth trying to top Google over (unless, of course, you find a non-competitive keyword somewhere). Perhaps even a three tiered strategy would work; write articles on the main articles (thus establishing yourself as an expert), then link those to a landing page where you promote a specific product, that being linked to the actual sales page of the merchant. Bit of work, but I bet you would see high conversions.
i just think that the best way to get your squeeze pages and those kind of pages that aren't blogs is to work on gettng traffic thats not direct meaning that when you search for something the squeeeze page will show up. I'm talking about either doing it with articles or using web 2.0 and utulize its power to get your content out there and using video marketing and other ways to get traffic to your landing page or squeeze page or anything that isn't a blog. I just thing thats the only way. Use the power of other powerfull sites and build links to those in witch you have your content on and then traffic will come with the help of them and not by trying to rank your squeeze page high in the search engines.
Yes,you can get a landing page on the first page of Google if you do the basic SEO i.e keywords, meta tags.
In my experience, the only way to rank a landing page (usually a sub 1000word page) on the first page of google is by targeting a keyword with very, very low competition. It makes sense, if I were google I wouldn't want all search results to be dominated by low quality sites. As far as providing information goes, landing pages are low quality source of information.
